Lexia Core 5
Reading Instructional Platform
Dear 1B Parent/Guardian,
Last week, Principal Akinola-Pinard sent a Smore announcing our partnership with an amazing reading program called Lexia Core5. The activities in Core5 support and build on our classroom curriculum and focus on developing reading skills in six areas: phonological awareness, phonics, structural analysis, fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Please refer to her newsletter for more information as to why we adopted the program.
There are four key steps to getting started:
Locating the website (computer/Chromebook) or downloading the app (iPad)
First Time Login

Check out the Smore sent from Principal Akinola-Pinard to find out why we chose Lexia
Four Steps to Getting Started
#1: Locating the Website or App
For computers and Chromebooks:
Go to tinyurl.com/lexiabpcs
Go to the App Store and download the free Lexia Core5 Reading app.
(The app is supported on these devices: iPad 4+, iPad Mini 3+, iPad Air+, and iPad Pro.)
If your child only has access to an iPhone/smartphone or a tablet (not an iPad) at home, please fill out this form -- Tech At-Home -- and we will be in touch about next steps.
#2: First Time Login
The first time your child uses Core5, you will need to use the classroom email shown below. For each login after, your child can then log in with only the username and password used at school and listed below.
- Classroom Email (for initial setup only): firstname.lastname@example.org
- Username: firstnamelastinitialBPCS (refer to link below to find student log-in info)
- Password: prospect123 (all lowercase letters)
#3: Auto-Placement Activity
It is important that your child works without any help while answering the questions on Lexia Core5. The first activity they will do helps the program place them at a level that they can work at independently. However, for younger students, if they need help clicking a button please show them how to click without giving the answer.
The activity will take 10-15 minutes. If your child does not finish at one time, then make sure to PRESS THE RED X BUTTON TO SAVE THEIR WORK.
Make sure your child can do the activity in a quiet place or with headphones so they can hear the instructions clearly.
Check out this Navigation Button guide to know which buttons will help them to listen to something again, move forward, and log out.
IMPORTANT: Each time your child logs out to stop work they must click the red X button to save their progress.
#4: How-to Use Lexia at Home: Independent Reading
Now that your student has a starting spot they are ready to read! To get started, please check out this “How-to Use Lexia at Home” guide (also linked below) to find out what the student dashboard will look like, how to determine the number of minutes your child will be reading each week, and how to plan for daily reading (both on Lexia and not on Lexia).
Here is a quick guide to log in regularly and explanation on the navigation buttons
