ENGLISH LEARNERS' ENRICHMENT AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM
The program will begin on Tuesday, November 12 and culminate on Tuesday, April 28. It will be held every Tuesday and Thursday right after school from 2:15 to 4:30 PM. The classrooms for each of the grade levels are:
Grade K - N-104
Grade 1 - K-C
Grade 2 - R-14
Grade 3 - C-18
Grade 4 - O-102
Grade 5 - N-104
EL OVERALL ACADEMIC GOAL
The academic goal for Jefferson's EL students is for them to make a year over year increase of 1 proficiency level in the Speaking, and Writing Domains on the annual WIDA assessment.
MONTHLY KEY CAN DO DESCRIPTORS for November & December
Our EL team will be working on the following WIDA "Key Can Do Descriptors" with the Speaking and Writing Domains.

Speaking - Repeating language to express agreement or disagreement
Writing - Providing information in graphic organizers

WIDA Can Do Descriptors -
Speaking - Sharing reasons for opinions or claims (eg. science experiments)
Writing - Participating in shared opinion writing experiences

Speaking - Stating opinions based on experiences

Monday 11/4 - Friday 11/8: Parent Teacher Conferences. School ends at 1:15 PM daily.
Tuesday 11/5 & Wednesday 11/6: Natalie Lundberg, Catapult Consultant, will be on campus
Friday 11/8: Deadline for RSVP to Thanksgiving Luncheon, to get an accurate count of students who will not be eating at the cafeteria on that day.

Thursday 12/5:
- Mrs. Dumas will be off campus at a WIDA ACCESS 2.0 training at 475 22nd Ave; Room 226.
- KCC/JES Tutoring Potluck; 3:00 - 4:00 PM. Last day of KCC tutoring.
Monday 12/23 - Friday 1/3/2020: Winter Break (No School)
MAHALO NUI LOA!
- Six teachers will teach in the after school enrichment program. We look forward to getting this under way again.
- Cafeteria team is willing to help warm up the Thanksgiving Meal for our luncheon. We're so thankful for all that you do everyday to keep us nourished, and going beyond your job duties to support and help our JES Ohana.
Air Conditioning Units:
A generous and kind-hearted group, who wishes to remain anonymous, donated two air conditioning (AC) units for our EL classroom. The room will soon be cool again. We are vey thankful for such a generous donation.
Volunteers:
Ms. Joycelyn Chun; comes a couple days a week, helps with paper work, and Grades K & 1 pull out.
Ms. Carlyne McGuire; KCC student, is doing her SLT once a week on Wednesdays, and volunteering to assist during the Grades K & 1 pull out on Tuesdays, and Thursdays.
Ms. Qiting Shen; KCC student, is also doing her SLT in two grade one, and EL classrooms on Fridays.
Jeune Scoffil; is eager to return and start a reading program to instill a love for reading. We can't wait for her to come back and hope to see her soon.

We're still looking for a PTT to fill in Ms. Lenny's position, and hope to find someone soon Requirements are: has a four year degree from an accredited college or university, preferably a speaker of at least one language in addition to English, and has some experience working with ELs. Please pass this on to whoever might be interested. Contact Ms. Dana to get an application asap.
