ELD Think Tanks
Mark your calendars for April 26 (Parker Library - Session 2 Participants) and 27th (Lone Tree Library - Session 1 Participants). Please keep in mind that you are assigned a specific day to attend. Please see this document for specific information and session assignments. The next ELD Think Tank will begin at 8:30 am, and it will end at 3:00 pm. Please attend the session for your feeder, and arrive between 8:15-8:30 am at the Library’s Event Hall.
Please Note:
If you are assigned to Session #2, you will attend the the Parker Library Think Tank ON THURSDAY, April 26th. 20105 East Mainstreet, Parker, CO 80138.
If you are assigned to Session #1, you will attend the Lone Tree Library Think Tank ON FRIDAY, April 27th. 10055 Library Way, Lone Tree, CO 80124.
We ask that you do not enter the Library prior to 8:15 am as we will need the area to be clear to set up the seating.
If you are a secondary or kindergarten teacher, please submit your sub request using the code "ELD-OTHER TRAINING."
On-Demand Interpretation: Argo Translation
DCSD now has a contract agreement with Argo Translation for on-demand, over the telephone (telephonic) interpretation. When in immediate need, telephonic interpretation may be accessed using the following procedure.
* Fees are $1.75 per minute for schools. See this link for more specific guidance regarding the use of interpreters and responsible parties.
** This information is being shared with our school administrators, PLS, and registrars. Please connect with your front office staff to ensure they are informed of this resource.
Literacy Intervention and English Language Development
To prevent the Summer Reading Slide, purchase summer literacy packs including English and bilingual books from Scholastic or other vendors. We recommend Scholastic’s kits. For more information, contact Karen Robison at KRobison@scholastic.com.
Summer literacy programming for students in your building. We would be happy to collaborate with you to develop a summer literacy program that meets your community’s needs.
ESL Celebration - Please Invite Families!!
WIDA Screener Transition
- Log-in to wida.us using your DCSD log-in.
- Click on My Account and Secure Portal.
- Begin the training modules for the WiDA Screener Online, WiDA Screener Paper, and Kindergarten W-APT traning (if you are an Elementary ESL Specialist).
Please DO NOT use the WIDA Screener for identification purposes yet. You will receive ample time to complete the trainings, cut scores aligned with the WiDA Screener, and we will determine a specific start date to begin using the WIDA Screener for identification as a department. This is just the beginning of the transition - no stress!! Please have these training modules completed by April 6, 2018.
If you would like support in completing the online modules, Cindy Close will be offering a number of Support Sessions. For dates beyond the image below, see the calendar on the homepage of the District ELD google site.
Your principals have been notified of the following need for next year as additional per pupil funds have been allocated to every school. Please connect with your principal to purchase your school’s WIDA Screener Paper Kit; order your kit here. The Paper WIDA Screener kit will be used only for all incoming Newcomer (new to English, NEP) potential English Learners students who may need a paper assessment. One kit per grade cluster is sufficient in most schools. Grade clusters are 1-5 and 6-12, and Kits are $69.00 each. Stay tuned for more information!
READ ACT Information for Parents - CDE Resources
Materials available to communicate with parents, educators about the READ Act
CDE’s communications division is offering materials about the READ Act to help educators and parents understand Colorado's important early literacy law.
The toolkits include videos, drop-in letters, fact sheets, ways parents can help their children read and answers to frequently asked questions. These materials are designed to help districts and schools communicate with parents about the READ Act. The materials are meant to be flexible. Use them as is or copy and paste the pieces that are most useful into your own branded materials.
