St. Mary's Public School Has a New Principal
Hello, Mt. Angel School District Families and Community!
My name is Jasmine Winslow and I am so pleased to be stepping into the role of principal at St. Mary’s Public School this year. As many of you know, I had been an elementary teacher at St. Mary’s for 16 years before moving into the secondary schools to support English Language Development over the past three years. I have also been serving in the role of AVID District Director which has allowed me to develop my leadership skills throughout our K-12 district.
As a life-long educator, I am passionate about building strong relationships with students and families and providing a high-quality education for each student we serve. I am ready to get to work supporting the staff, students, and families of Mt. Angel during these challenging times in education. I know that through collaborating with the amazing staff at St. Mary’s, we will create the best experience we can for our students.
New State and County Metrics Determine When Students Can Return to Schools
The 2020-2021 School Year will Start with Comprehensive Distance Learning for All
Our final plan for the 2020-2021 school year will be presented to the school board on August 10th, the final plan is due to ODE and Oregon Health Authority on August 17th. The board meeting can be watched remotely at https://zoom.us/j/91396012389?pwd=b1FIQ0hLTnlHVGZEaDJEQ0s1c1o4QT09
Following the board meeting on August 10th, the district will be surveying families again to identify needs for Chromebooks and internet connectivity at home. The survey will also provide an option to request preferences for when students are able to return to buildings at least 2 days per week. Watch for the survey on Tuesday August 11th.
We are currently expecting school to start for all students on Monday September 21, 2020. The later start date will allow staff to be trained on new programs and procedures. The delayed start will also allow for parents an opportunity to receive training on the district's newly adopted learning management system, Canvas. Canvas will improve teaching and learning from a distance, as well as expand the methods of communications between teachers, families and students.
Updated Ready Schools, Safe Learners Guidance was released June 30th, Version 3.0.1 Ready Schools, Safe Learners. The updated guidance for Comprehensive Distance Learning can be found here; Comprehensive Distance Learning . The latest information for sports can be found on the OSAA website at http://www.osaa.org/coronavirus.

Mt. Angel Schools Provide Grab-N-Go Meals Through the Summer
Free and healthy "Grab-n-Go" breakfast/lunches are available for children and teens between the ages of 1 – 18 years old. Students and/or families can stop by St. Mary’s Public Elementary School located at 590 E. College Street in Mt. Angel between the hours of 10:30 a.m. and 12:00 p.m., Monday -Friday. The "Grab-n-Go" breakfast/lunch program will continue through August 21st. The district is planning to continue providing meals for families beginning September 8th. More details to come as planning is finalized.
Athletic Participation at Schools is Still On Hold
The increasing risk of COVID-19 spreading in Marion County continues to challenge reopening facilities to sports activities. Some districts are allowing limited participation under the summer guidance provided by OSAA, which ends August 30, 2020. As of July 1, 2020, liability insurance for school districts across Oregon no longer covers claims related to communicable diseases which creates additional concerns for districts. The Oregon Legislative Assembly is expected to address this liability issue in the second special session, which begins Monday August 10th. We are working to create opportunities to get kids active again, while continuing to prioritize everyone's health and safety. The latest information for sports can be found on the OSAA website at http://www.osaa.org/coronavirus.
