Desegregation
1950's- School desegregation became a law during this time period allowing kids from any race background to attend school together.
Civil Rights Act
1960's- The Civil Rights Act outlawed any discrimination based on race, gender, or sex. This allowed kids to attend the same school and gave people the same rights as the whites.
Equal Right's for Women
1970's- Women now had equal rights based sex they were now able to work the same jobs as men and get paid the same. Until this day people continue to advocate for women's right.
Achievement & Success

- Salk invented the Polio vaccine
- Watson and Crick discovered DNA
- Doctors first transplanted an organ & Kidney
- Yankee's go to the world series
Salk
The invention of the Polio vaccine was significant because it helped prevent Poliomyelitis and controlled the epidemic disease within six years. It was also the first demonstration that a disease of this magnitude could be detained with success.
Watson & Crick
The discovery made by Watson and Crick of DNA helped solve one of the key mysteries in science. This discovery not only helped scientists, but also opened new doors in the eyes of the law. In addition people could now be tested for DNA results for rapes or murders.
Organ & Kidney Transplant
The first organ and kidney transplant gave people new hope and possibilities that there lives or their loved ones could be saved with the help of a transplant. This also gave people a longer life span and helped doctors pursue other medical advancements.

Birth Control
The approval of the birth control pill gave women control over their bodies and helped prevent unwanted pregnancies. The pill also gave teens and or young adults the urge to experiment in such activities.
Apollo 11
Apollo 11 is the first spaceflight that lands humans on the moon. Millions of people all over the world tuned in to watching this unforgettable moment in scientific history.
Muhammad Ali
American professional boxer who was considered one greatest heavyweights in the history of boxing. Thousands of people supported him ....

Apple
The founding of the Apple corporation not only became a huge success in the 1970's but also is well known today for its products such as the iPhone, iPad, or Mac computer. This company represented a new technological advancement during this decade.
Earth Day
Earth day was created to bring awareness to others about the issues and problems we as a society are causing to the atmosphere. Many people today still take part in numerous earth day activities each year to help support this movement.
The Voyager
The Voyager program was created to help jump start studying the solar system. With the start of this probe being launched into space by NASA it helped young scientists and teachers figure out how the solar system works.

Credit Card
The new credit card allowed people to now purchase items , without having to pay for it at that exact moment. People now bought TV's and payed their restaurant bills with their credit cards. ("Buy now, pay later")
Color Tv
Color TV now allowed people to watch their shows in a more vivid realistic way, and created the foundation of video image technology that is still used in today's world.
Microwave Oven
The invention of the microwave oven now allowed people to cook more easily and better. In addition the oven also created a fundamental technological advancement within the society.

Cassette Tape
The Cassette tape allowed the huge rise of artists because it allowed them to create their own recording studios. In addition to that people could now produce high quality copies of music at a very inexpensive cost.
Automated Teller Machine
The automated teller machine known as the ATM allowed people to take out money at their own convenience without the hassle of dealing with the bank. People could now spend freely without worrying when they needed more money because they could just stop by an ATM and pull out more money. This is still used in today's society quite often.
Calculator
People could now solve simple equations with the use of the calculator there was now no use for calculating and number crunching the old fashion way. Writing everything down was no longer needed, now all you had to do was plug it into the calculator.

Apple One
The first Apple computer was released in 1977. This new item features new software, 4 GB of Ram, and an audio cassette. People still continue to buy new modern apple computers each year as they are being innovated.
Video Games
The first video game to that could be played electronically on screens was created by Nolan Bushnell. This new item gave kids and young adults something fun to do while also experiencing new technology through a screen.
Rubik's Cube
This complicated and well designed cube gave people something new to pick at. 200 million cubes were sold and sales continue to rise each year world wide. Kids, adults, and elders all like to try and solve this puzzle.
