SPIRIT WEEK at "The Landing!"
- Valentine's Day Spirit week will be celebrated at WLES February 14th-17th. Thank you to our PTA for sponsoring this fun school-wide expression of LOVE!
- Teachers will reach out about individual in-class celebrations.
- Eating in the classroom, including cupcakes, cookies and candy will not be allowed during in-class celebrations due to COVID mitigations. Teachers are working on creative ways to celebrate while maintaining safety in the classroom.

On-Demand Learning Changes (Effective 2/14/22)
The period of excused absences for students and their families who remained concerned about attending school due to COVID-19 expired Friday, Feb. 11th.
Beginning Monday students are expected to attend school in-person and if absent they must provide a reason for that absence as is allowed under the MCPS Guide to Students Rights and Responsibility
Students may miss school for the following reasons only:
- Death in the immediate family
- Student illness
- Court summons
- Doctor/Medical appointments
- Pregnancy and parenting needs
- Observance of a religious holiday
- State emergency
- Suspension

Virtual Academy Student Applications Now Open for 2022-23
The Montgomery Virtual Academy (MVA) is now accepting applications for the 2022-2023 school year. Students interested in the program are required to apply for admission and must be approved to participate. (Students currently enrolled in the Virtual Academy do not need to reapply.) Information being shared with the community can be found here.

SAFETY REMINDERS AT SCHOOL
2. Continue to report positive COVID cases using the MCPS form. You can still pick up your At-Home Test by calling the school to arrange pick up. This is how we will provide a safe environment for all of the dolphin community!
3. Families are encouraged to complete the Student Registration for Random Weekly COVID Testing at WLES.

Rapid Tests Distribution
STUDENTS SHOULD TEST WHEN:
- When a student has been identified as close contact to someone who has tested positive for COVID-19—Use a rapid test 5 Days after exposure.
- When an unvaccinated student is in quarantine—Use a rapid test on Day 5 to return to school on Day 8.
- When a student has developed COVID-19 symptoms—Use a rapid test at onset of symptoms.
- When returning from travel or large gatherings—Use a rapid test before returning to school.

The Out-of-School Time (OST) website is designed to provide students and families with safe and engaging options for students on days when school is not in session (after school, weekends, scheduled school closures).These in person and/or virtual activities will address academic skills, physical and emotional wellness, and digital learning skills. Please refer to the Family out of school website (MCPS)
FREE AND REDUCED-PRICE MEALS
Students may qualify for free or reduced-price meals based on household size and income. They may also qualify if they are receiving Food Supplement Program (FSP) or Temporary Cash Assistance (TCA) benefits. Families may apply for meal benefits by completing an Application for Free and Reduced-Price Meals for the current school year. Federal eligibility guidelines change each school year; therefore a new application must be submitted each school year. All students in the family should be listed on one household application. A notice will be mailed home for each student if you are approved for meal benefits or do not qualify for meal benefits. Please keep this important document for your records and use throughout the school year. Families may apply for meal benefits at any time during the school year. Households that are unable to apply online should contact their school or the Division of Food and Nutrition Services at 301-284-4900. Please click here to apply online.
