We are Learning...
Next week in reading we will continue to focus on informational text. Students will learn that when reading informational text, they may need to approach their reading differently! We will discuss that the author of an information book may be an expert and is trying to teach the reader something new! We will learn to become experts on using the table of contents, and the glossary!
Math:
We have already begun our study on mental subtraction. This will lead into subtracting with and without regrouping.
Writing:
We working hard on our nonfiction writing! The students have been working hard creating their table of contents, brainstorming, and writing their books. Next week, students will learn about certain nonfiction features by looking at nonfiction text and apply what they have learned to their writing next week!
Word Study
Word study in 2nd grade includes spelling, phonics, and vocabulary development. We are focusing on 13 new vocabulary words for the next 2 weeks. Those words are: income, profit, economics, need, want, resources, tragedy, effect, design, supply, scarcity, opportunity cost, and surplus!
Social Studies:
We will continue our study of economics. Students will describe how people in a community use productive resources, create a variety of businesses and industries, specialize in different types of jobs, and depend on each other to supply goods and services. Ask your child how Play-doh helped them to learn economics!
