Frankfort High School 4 Star DIstinguished School
Frankfort High Graduates to receive Tuition Free at Georgetown College
New Scholarship LEGACY AND LEGENDS Offers Full-Tuition Scholarship to All Franklin County Students
In celebration of the long history between Georgetown College and Franklin County, all students of Franklin County admitted to Georgetown College will receive the Legacy and Legends Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship. Franklin County becomes the last of four counties, including previously announced counties Scott, Owen, and Casey, to receive the Legacy and Legends Scholarship.
Beginning in fall 2020, any newly admitted, full-time, residential student who either graduated from a high school in Franklin County after attending for their senior year, or who has been a resident in Franklin County for at least one year, will receive the Legacy and Legends Scholarship, which covers the full cost of tuition for four years. The scholarship offers the exciting opportunity to receive the holistic education and outstanding career outcomes Georgetown College provides. Other scholarships and grants for which the student is eligible can be stacked on top of this scholarship and applied to room and board or other fees.
Georgetown College’s connection to Franklin County stems from its early history welcoming women to the college. In 1846, the college welcomed four women to join a seminary connected to Georgetown. One of those women, Mary F. Craig, came to the seminary from Franklin County. She would be a trailblazer for all women who would go on to attend Georgetown College, and Legacy and Legends honors her legacy and the legacy of those early female students.
Legacy and Legends honors the connection Franklin County has with Georgetown College’s history of welcoming trailblazing women,” said President of Georgetown College, Will Jones. “This scholarship will allow the next generation of trailblazers, innovators, and leaders to receive the championship-level education of the heart and mind that Georgetown College provides. I look forward to welcoming many new students from Franklin County to campus thanks to this exciting opportunity.”
The partnership will further the relationship between the college and Franklin County, producing proud graduates ready to succeed in an ever-changing world. Ranked number one in the state of Kentucky for the second year in a row in job or graduate school placement, Georgetown College
strives to send students out into the world ready to conquer its modern challenges, and this partnership will allow more students than ever to receive that quality of education.
Dr. Houston Barber, Superintendent of Frankfort Independent Schools, said “This is an extraordinary opportunity to prepare our students to become the best version of themselves. Georgetown College is redefining what it means to be a partner in changing the culture of an entire community to one focused on improving the livelihood of citizens, stakeholders, and workers. The Legacy and Legends Scholarship is a game changer for Frankfort Independent Schools and our students and families in Frankfort, KY. I am thrilled that we are one of the four counties chosen in the Commonwealth of Kentucky.”
Superintendent of Franklin County Schools, Mark Kopp, also noted “All of us in Franklin County Schools are so incredibly excited for the amazing opportunities the Georgetown College Legacy and Legends Scholarship will provide for our students and families. We are so grateful and thankful to Georgetown College for creating this scholarship, and we are looking forward to being a strong partner of Georgetown College for many years to come. This scholarship will benefit not only our students, but our entire community here in Franklin County. We are confident that the scholarship will be a community asset that will lead to growth and increased enrollment in our school district. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for creating this amazing opportunity!”
The new scholarship will begin in 2020 and will be up for renewal in 2030, allowing an entire generation of students access to a championship-level education of the heart and mind.
Dr. Jonathan Sands Wise, VP of Enrollment at Georgetown College, said “The opportunity for students in Franklin County to receive the quality of education that Georgetown College provides with tuition fully covered is life-altering and could affect generations of students, serving as encouragement to them and the entire Franklin County community.”
In addition to the Legacy and Legends Scholarship, Georgetown College offers generous scholarship assistance to every admitted student. Students are eligible to receive merit scholarships valued at between $8,000 to $25,000 per year, and many will also receive need-based or performance-based scholarships on top of that. Georgetown College is proud to offer a genuinely affordable and excellent education with outstanding outcomes for all of our students.

Opportunity for FHS Students to serve as Leadership Ambassadors
An Invitation From Andy Barr
The program will consist of breakout sessions with speakers who serve as top leaders in the Commonwealth covering several important topics. This year's conference will be held in or near Lexington, KY on a Saturday in February. It is my goal that our Youth Ambassadors will return to their schools and communities and share what they learn with their classmates and fellow Kentuckians.
Please find a copy of the application attached. Each applicant should provide basic contact information, a copy of his or her resume, and a 250-word essay outlining why he or she wishes to be a part of the program. Please have students complete and return the application by January 13, 2020, to my District Office via mail, email or fax. Participants will be notified of acceptance by email by January 20, 2020.
I encourage you to share this information with the students, teachers, and parents at your school, as this is a truly valuable experience for the youth in our district. If you have any further questions regarding the Youth Ambassador Program or its application process, please do not hesitate to contact McKinii Todd at my District Office at (859)219-1366 or McKinzii.Todd@mail.house.gov.
