One last push...15 to 20 Minutes of your time!
We have still not received enough responses to consider our NEASC survey a valid measurement. Thank you if you have already completed it. If you have not, you can use this link or the one I emailed last week. If you have any issues accessing the survey, please contact me for assistance.
Family Survey
It is very important that we have as many families as possible complete this survey. The school needs a minimum response rate of 25% for the data to be meaningful. Here is some information:
- It is anonymous, but because there is no “login” for the survey, it should be completed once you begin.
- Your responses are automatically recorded so you will be unable to return to the survey without starting over.
- If you the the survey before completing it, we will only have the answers you completed.
You do not need to complete more than one survey if you have multiple students in our school. The survey takes about 15 minutes. Click this link to access it.

Attendance Policy
As we head into the final weeks of the semester, I would like to remind students and parents about our attendance policy.
It is understood that there are occasions when a student may not be able to be in school. We acknowledge the following examples as acceptable excused absences. Documentation for these absences should be turned into the main office on the first day of a child’s return to school.
- Illness, hospitalization, or medical appointment: medical evidence [may be] required
- Disability related absences
- Court appearances
- Approved school activity
- Religious holiday
- Death in immediate family
- Pre-approved college visitation: seniors only, maximum three (3); junior maximum two (2)
Any student who has missed more than six (6) days of a class during a semester course may be denied academic credit for that course. Denial of credit letters will be sent home after seven (7) absences indicating that a student has lost credit for that class.Any student who has missed more than twelve (12) days of a class during a year-long course may be denied academic credit for that course. Denial of credit letters will be sent home after thirteen (13) absences indicating that a student has lost credit for that class.
warrior cries!
Warrior cries are shout outs to staff and students here at Seekonk High School. They are our way of recognizing hard work, creative thinking, and characteristics that make us proud to be part of this community. Please contact Dr. Jones if you wish to give a "warrior cry" to someone!
Mrs. Osterle for... "for going to the Seekonk Landtrust presentation and for always being supportive of students' emotional and academic needs" - Matt Wills
Abigail, Collin, and James Tenreiro..."Abigail, Collin and James were instrumental in creating a magical event with us. Out of 20 volunteers that signed up to help with the event (15 JWU students and 5 SHS students), they were the only ones that showed. Your students were amazing!!! They arrived on time and stayed until every last detail was taken care of. They jumped into action, worked non-stop and were completely engaged with the children and families at the event. We were truly impressed by your students. Abigail, Collin and James were a true pleasure to work with!!!" -The Newman Y

Seekonk High School Job Shadow Program
Local Professionals Needed to Help Guide Students' Career Exploration!
Can you help a student make more informed choices about their career and college plans? Consider volunteering to be a job shadow host and/or the subject of an informational interview. We will put your name on a list of possible contacts for students interested in doing in depth career exploration.
We welcome professionals from all fields to come forward; currently, however, we have three specific areas in which students would like to make contact. We are looking for a social worker and an engineer. If you or anyone you know works in one of those areas and are willing to help a student investigate career paths, please reach out to Mrs. Calverley, Career Specialist, at 508-336-7272, xt.62447.
FYI: Job shadow hosts allow a student to visit you at your place of business to get a first-hand look at the job and have time to ask questions and get expert advice. Informational Interviewees would come to Seekonk High School to meet with a student or small group of students who are interested in knowing more about your line of work. There is no minimum time commitment in either role--this is done at your convenience.
Anyone wishing to be on the list must consent to a CORI (background) check, which can be processed at the Main Office.
Feel free to spread the word to your friends, neighbors, and SHS alumni.
Questions? Please contact Janet Fitzgerald, Transition Coordinator, 508-336-7272, ext. 62459
Career Spotlight - Neil Nadeau
On December 12th, the Culinary Arts classes welcomed guest speaker Neil Nadeau, owner of Lemon and Oil Deli & Catering. The visit was coordinated by career specialist Laura Calverly and guidance counselor Melissa Mello in collaboration with Culinary Arts teacher Joanne Dahmer. Mr. Nadeau shared his career path, spoke open and candidly about his business, answered questions from the students and even shared the back story of the Three Against One Salad on the menu! It was a great opportunity for students to hear about owning and operating a restaurant, as well as offering excellent universal advice such as asking yourself your definition of "success" and remembering that if you fail to plan, you plan to fail. Thank you to Mr. Nadeau for sharing his time with our school community!
Nurse - Mrs. Rok
The Polished Program, a dental cleaning program, is coming to Seekonk High School on January 10, 2018 during the school day. If you would like to have your son/daughter receive a free dental cleaning, please email Mrs. Rok. Forms are in the health room or main office.
The MDPH and CDC have provided fact sheets and information of “Talk with Your Teen About E-cigarettes”.”In 2016, the FDA established a rule for e-cigarettes and their liquid solutions. Because e-cigarettes contain nicotine derived from tobacco, they are now subject to government regulation as tobacco products, including the requirement that both in-store and online purchasers be at least 18 years of age.” For more information, please see the link and visit the FDA’s webpage, The Facts on the FDA’s New Tobacco Rule.
