South Florence to Launch Arts Magnet Program: Parent Meeting Scheduled for Tuesday
On Tuesday, March 5, at 6:30 p.m., parents and guardians of gifted rising ninth graders with a passion for the arts are invited to the South Florence High School media center to review the course of study and application audition procedures for the New Arts Magnet School which will launch next year at South Florence High, 3200 South Irby Street. Students Fill Magnolia Mall with Sounds of Music
The month of March has been designated Music-in-our-Schools Month and, in recognition, Florence 1 Schools music students will celebrate with live performances at Magnolia Mall. Performances began Thursday, February 28 and will culminate on Saturday March 2. Florence 1 music students, including jazz bands, choruses, orchestras, and dance groups will perform at the center area of the mall.

Academic Challenge Update: Teams Head to FMU Regional Tourneys
All middle school academic challenge teams will participate in the Francis Marion University (FMU) Pee Dee Regional Academic Tournament for middle schools on March 9. At the end of the season, both Williams Middle and Sneed Middle finished with a record of 6 and 0. Southside Middle finished with 4 wins and 2 losses.
All high school academic teams will compete in the FMU Pee Dee Regional Academic Tournament for high schools on March 23. South Florence finished with a record of 4 wins and 2 losses; Wilson ended with a record of 5-1; and West Florence finished 3-3.
All teams (both middle and high) are vying for advancement to the state tournament which will be held at Winthrop University in Rock Hill on March 29.
ADHD Worskhop for Parents
Title One of Williams Middle School will present a workshop, " Understanding ADHD in Children and Adolescents." This workshop,which is a part of the Behavioral Health Series, is open to all parents in Florence 1 Schools. The workshop will be held in the Williams Middle Media Center on Monday, March 11, at 6 p.m. For more information, call Sam Fryer at 843-664-8162.
Parents Invited to Language Immersion Program Interest Meeting at Delmae
Delmae Elementary School will hold an interest meeting for parents wanting to receive information about the Language Immersion Program, which begins with students in kindergarten classes.
Although these kindergarten students are taught using the same South Carolina standards as other kindergarten classes, Language Immersion Program students receive instruction in both Spanish and English.
The interest meeting will be held Tuesday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. in the Delmae Elementary cafeteria.
This meeting is open to all Florence 1 parents with a child entering kindergarten during the 2019-20 school year.

The Arts Alliance will award three scholarships---two $1,000 scholarships and one $500 scholarship.
