In the desert the normal temperature is 85 Fahrenheit to 100 Fahrenheit.But in the summer it can get up to 110 degrees. Most of the worlds deserts are in hot areas.The definition of the desert is a dry hot land with barely any water.

Gila Monster
The banded Gila monster is shy just like my big brother Brandon.But can be just as mean.The banded Gila monster is one of the two venomous lizards.The banded Gila monster can grow to two feet long.The banded Gila monster lives in rocky areas it lives in burrows.The banded Gila monster eats lizards,small mammals and eggs.
Kangaroo Rat
A Kangaroo rat is basically a kangaroo but the size of a mouse.It has big hind legs just like a kangaroo.Kangaroo rats dig up seeds to eat.Kangaroo rats mostly live in open areas.
Desert Tortoise
The desert tortoise is found in Mojave and Sonoran desert.The desert tortoise is a herbivore so it only eats plants.

The Joshua tree got its name by Mormon pioneers they named it after Joshua in the bible.
Jumping cholla
From a distance the Jumping cholla looks like it is jumping.But as you get closer you can see that it is covered in spikes.There are two reasons it is called a Jumping cholla. 1 is from a distance the Jumping cholla looks like it is jumping.2 is when you rub up against a Jumping cholla its spikes will jump on what ever rubbed against it.

The Palo is a small tree it grows in the sonoran desert.Itsadapted to a uniqe way to survive the heat of the desert sun.

People are digging wells in the desert and taking water away from the plants and animals.There is also to many tourists driving in cars and planes and its polluting our deserts.But some people are trying to help the desert by planting more plants.
