Mrs. Badgett's Weekly Update

Week of December 7th

As we enter into the season of giving, Hazel Dell has once again chosen to donate items to a school in Central Indiana. This is the second year that we will be changing the traditional book exchange into an optional service project. If you are interested in donating items, we will be collecting markers, crayons, colored pencils, scissors, rulers, pencils, kleenex, dry erase markers, and pencil boxes. (They have plenty of notebooks and notebook paper.) Please do NOT wrap the donated items. They will be boxed and delivered to the school w/ love from the HD school community!

We are identifying the theme and providing evidence for the interpretation.

Your child will also be reading a novel, based on his/her reading level, with a small group of students. We are working on answering higher-level questions over our reading by analyzing, evaluating, and creating.

We will also be reading passages. Please reference Canvas to view the articles. There is a link to Canvas below.

We had an assessment over Unit 5 (Big Numbers, Estimation and Computation) on Friday. Overall, the students did a great job on the assessment. This week we will begin Unit 6 (Multiplication and Division Number Stories). Please continue to practice multiplication AND division facts at home. Please let me know if you need any flashcards. We use the app "Multiplication Genius" in class to practice!

We are finishing our persuasive essays this week. We will be publishing them by Friday and will have a gallery walk for all of the students to read one another's essays.

Your child will have homework each night. The reading log is due on Friday. Also, MobyMax is a great website for your child to practice at his/her instructional level. The link is below.
