1st Grade Classes Celebrate and Learn about the Many Uses of the Apple

John Chapman's, better known as Johnny Appleseed's, birthday just passed, and our 1st Grade students celebrated Mr. Appleseed's big day by learning about apples and their many uses. Historically, Johnny Appleseed is credited with introducing apple trees to many portions of the Northeast and Canada, including our very own Pennsylvania, during the early 1800s. Honoring the delicious legacy of Mr. Appleseed, our 1st Grade students engaged in some activities where they read about his apple planting, completed some apple-themed activities (e.g. a Johnny Appleseed Timeline), and... the BEST part... did some taste-testing of various apple delicacies. There was apple butter, apple cider, apple sauce, and just plain old apple slices, to name a few. The 1st Graders also did some food critiques of the various apple food items they tasted. It was a fun day of learning with a delicious and healthy theme!

Wonderful Turnout for our Kindergarten and 1st Grade Picnic!

FROM MR. ORTMAN and MR. MURTHA

We have come to the end of September... a full month of school into the 2022-2023 school year is "in the books," and it has been a great start! Our 6th Grade students took on (and conquered) the Ropes Course challenge, we held a fun food truck event that brought our greater community together, and we had a formal chance to welcome many new... and some returning... families during this past week's Kindergarten/1st Grade Picnic. And that doesn't even cover all of the incredible in-school happenings. Students and teachers have been creating classroom bonds, students have been learning new skills in a new grade level (in particular, we have already seen a lot of great writing happening in classrooms), and classrooms are alive with technology-infused learning, small group learning, and wonderful activities (e.g. the recent 1st Grade Johnny Appleseed lessons/activities)!

As we head into October, students will dive deeper into the curriculum and start to bring home even more and deeper knowledge and skills. They will truly amaze you! Additionally, we are entering a really fun part of the school year, with upcoming Halloween events and lessons focused on Thanksgiving and the Winter Holidays thereafter. Thank you for the part you play in our students'/your childrens' learning journey!

Let the "spooky season" begin, and have a nice weekend!

Instructional Spotlight - Ms. Lincow, Kindergarten

Ms. Lincow's Kindergarten classes are having many wonderful learning experiences! Among them, they are learning how to read calendars, which involves a number of important mathematical skills. During a recent lesson, the students had to both count the days leading up to October and try to visualize how the October calendar will look (as it is not quite posted yet). As is common practice in Ms. Lincow's classroom, a student helper assisted her in counting how many days were left until October with the rest of the class assisting in the process. Ms. Lincow's students showed off their calendar skills and conveyed their excitement for heading into October!

Student Laptop Expectations

Central Bucks Technology & Innovation Department is asking us to stress the importance of laptop case use for students (grades 3-6) when they transport their laptops and when laptops are not in use for extended periods of time. At school, we will be stressing the importance and reminding students of the need to put their laptop in its case during these times (e.g. when taking a laptop from their classroom to specials class). We ask that you stress these practices at home, too. Thank you for your support!

Additionally, if your child loses or misplaces their laptop case, please reach out to the Mill Creek Main Office.

District Laptop and iPad Care

Central Bucks Innovation and Technology Department has asked us to communicate the following regarding District-issued laptop and iPad care...

  • Please encourage your children to use their laptop/iPad bags for carrying devices in school, at home, and to and from each location.
  • Please encourage your children to report issues/problems with their devices, so they can be properly address and fixed as soon as possible.
  • The laptop/iPad payment fee covers accidental damage. Intentional damage may result in a family being billed for the damage.

Schools will be communicating these messages in school as well.

We appreciate your support!

Inclement Weather Procedures for Car Riders - Dismissal

We ask that, on inclement weather days, car riders post a placard with the student(s) family last name, so we can call in names for quicker dismissal. We will do our best to send a message out earlier in the day if we believe inclement weather dismissal is necessary for car riders. Feel free to use the placard template below if you find it helpful.
