Wilson Creek News
Manhattan School District 114
October 2023
We have over a full month of school behind us and we're looking ahead to a busy fall at school. Our preschool students are following their routines and participating with confidence. Our kindergarten students are building on their practice of being a student and our 1st and 2nd graders are adjusting to the expectations of their new grade levels. We are grateful for the opportunities we have to play, learn, and grow with our Wilson Creek students this year!
Thank you for your dedication to your child's success at school. We appreciate all that you do to be sure your child is prepared for school each day. School and bedtime routines at home set your child up for success, too!
Just a few quick reminders and notes:
- Thank you for making sure your child knows whether or not he or she has ordered school lunch for the day.
- Walkers and car riders, please make sure the person picking up your child knows his or her correct and exact pick-up number.
- If you haven't already, be sure to connect to your child's class on Seesaw.

Benchmark Assessment Information
In alignment with our district strategic and MTSS plans, we will continue to use the DESSA, a universal social-emotional screener to assess all kindergarten through second grade students systematically throughout the school year. Our first screening will take place in early October. If the outcome of the screening indicates that a student can benefit from additional support outside of the classroom, Mrs. Worth, one of our school social workers, will reach out to parents with more information.

Halloween at Wilson Creek
Our K-2 students will parade around the outside of our building at 9:30 AM and the PTO Halloween Parties will be at 11:00 AM. Parents are welcome to view the parade along the east and south driveways of the building.
Tuesday, October 31st is a 12:30 PM Early Release Day for K-2 and EC/PFA is not in attendance.
Students should wear their costumes to school and be able to independently manage them throughout the day. No weapons are allowed and families should avoid sending accessories that could be easily lost.
More information regarding Halloween will be shared in the coming weeks!
Notes from our Nurses
Thank you for being proactive in keeping your sick kids at home. Students need to be 24 hour symptom free without medication prior to returning to school. The most effective learning comes when children are healthy!
All preschool and kindergarten physicals, signed by a parent/guardian and the physician, are due no later than October 15. If there is no physical on file by this date, the student will be excluded from school until the form is submitted.
Kindergarten vision exams are also due the first week of October.
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the nurse’s office and we would be happy to help!
