BHMS EBlast
October 6, 2017
Dear Families,
We are proud to have an environment at Broomfield Heights based in our five core values; Determination, Respect, Equity, Achievement, and Mindfulness! We work hard to create and sustain social-emotional learning for our kids and community.
Did you know that we have thriving partnerships help to make our community stronger?
· Next week, 30 of our students will participate in a leadership training with the ADL’s No Place for Hate initiative. This is our second year participating in this program and we are very proud of our No Place for hate designation for last year! As outlined in the Anit-Defamation League’s mission, this partnership “provides schools and communities with an organizing framework for combating bias, bullying and hatred, leading to long-term solutions for creating and maintaining a positive climate. No Place for Hate schools receive their designation by:
§ Building inclusive and safe communities in which respect is the goal, and all students can thrive.
§ Empowering students, faculty, administration and family members to take a stand against hate and bullying by incorporating new and existing programs under one powerful message.
§ Engaging schools and communities in at least three anti-bias activities per year, which ADL helps to develop.
§ Sending a clear, unified message that all students have a place to belong.”
· We are working in partnership with CU-Boulder and A Queer Endeavor to ensure inclusive and safe community for every student. Our staff continues to work together and with these resources to sustain and grow our inclusive and affirming learning community for every child and family.
Additionally, our staff and our four main student leadership groups are consistently moving forward with our work of inclusiveness in an environment where all students can feel at “home.” Student Council, 360 Mentors, Gender/Sexuality Allies and DANCE (Diversity and New Culture Equity) work together to consistently embed our core values in the student and staff experience at Broomfield Heights.
BHMS is a great place to learn, grow and thrive! We stand with all our students to celebrate who they are and the diversity that each of us bring to the table. I encourage you to continue to support our mission and continue conversations of inclusiveness and celebration of diversity with your families. We are have a richness of diversity in Broomfield and we thrive with our classmates, neighbors, and greater community!
Thank you for all of your support for BHMS.
Enjoy your weekend and please let us know of any comments, questions, or feedback.

It is time once again for the Share-A-Coat program for us to collect coats to support the Boulder Valley Rotary Club. We appreciate all the efforts in past years of you, your staff and students in this worthwhile endeavor and look forward to working with you again this year. In 2016, over 2,000 coats and many miscellaneous items of clothing were collected and distributed to needy families in Boulder County and to various charitable organizations. Please bring in your warm items to help out our community!
Halloween is once again upon us and it's time to start thinking about costumes, if you plan on wearing them! Please abide by the rules around costumes are: No Blood, Gore, Masks, Weapons of any kind, Face paint is ok if appropriate and we can still see their face, school appropriate.

Student Led Conferences
Dear BHMS Families,
Student-Led Conferences are around the corner. Teachers will all be in their classrooms from 5:30-8:00 on Oct. 19, 24 and 26.. The focus of the student-led conferences is to allow your child to demonstrate his/her scholastic accomplishments. As a family member, you can provide encouragement and help your student set goals for the remainder of the year.
Our goals for this conference format are:
To help families understand what is taking place in the classroom
To communicate about student learning
To help students accept ownership for learning and behavior
To support students in enhancing organizational and leadership skills
To assist students in building self-esteem and self-confidence
Each conference will last approximately 10 minutes and we encourage students and family members to visit as many teachers as they would like, in each teacher’s classroom. There will be numerous student-led conferences taking place at one time within each classroom. We invite you to begin student-led conferencing in any of your child’s teachers’ classrooms, when there is an open space. Throughout this process there will be opportunities to have brief conversations with teachers and your child.
We look forward to working with you and your student!
Sincerely,
BHMS Administration and Teachers
