In partnership with the West Bridgewater Fire Department , West Bridgewater Public Schools and the West Bridgewater PTO, we are having a Toy Drive to gather toys and gift cards for local West Bridgewater families in need. (Ages of the children range from 5 to 17.) Last year, we assisted approximately 50 West Bridgewater families.
If you would like to donate, please drop an unwrapped toy or gift card to the police or fire station lobby. Or if you have a school aged child, please have them bring the item to their school. There will be collection bins at each location. If you schedule a Santa visit in December through the West Bridgewater Police Department, please consider donating an item for Santa to bring back to the police department that night.
Any questions, please contact our School Resource Officer, Officer Pope at tpope@wbpd.com or 508-586-2525 ext 5119.

A Peek Inside Classes and Clubs
ELA and Reading
Students in Mrs. Mischley’s Horror and Literature class created Creepy Pastas and two sentence scares as well as learned about the history of vampires and werewolves.
AP Literature and Composition students had a blast at the annual Renaissance Karaoke Day. Students transcribed modern songs into Shakespearean English and sang their hearts out!
Mrs. Theriault’s Reading class is on an adventure with Robin Hood and his Merry Men. We are actively working on projects to demonstrate our knowledge!
TV Production
Video Production students continue to be involved in the local cable access productions. WB-CAM has produced all of the varsity football home games, allowing students like Thomas and Aidan to do play by play and commentary, which has helped them build their resumes for their future major. Sam recently got the opportunity to operate the robotic camera during one of the games. Big thanks to Ben Smith of WB-CAM for the opportunity.
Science
Students in Ms. Brennan's Physics class were doing a, "make your own treasure map". Students needed to use their knowledge of vectors, a tape measure & a protractor to create their own treasure directions to some unique object on the first floor, behind which their treasure was hidden!
Ms. Brogna's Anatomy & Physiology class explored types of wounds, stages of wound healing, first aid and suturing last week. Many found the task challenging but all enjoyed learning a skill critical to emergency care.
Robotics
Students in Ms. Brennan's Robotics class were prepping for their class competition with the robots they created.
Grade 7 Science
Students in Ms. Parenteau's class were working on a lab where students were creating solutions of different colors using precise measuring techniques. We were paying attention to solvents and solutes, and enjoying making mixtures.
French
French Field trip to Le FloFranco Concert
Students in Mrs. O’Loughlin’s and Mrs. Eddlem’s upper level French classes traveled to Lexington, MA on Thursday to attend a concert by le Flo Franco. Le Flo is a Franco-Ontarian rapper of Haitian origin, the grand champion of the 2022 Manie Musicale competition. Le Flo let students know that he felt and appreciated their love! He put on an engaging, dynamic show. and afterwards, took time to take photos and selfies with students, and sign autographs. Students appreciated the opportunity to celebrate music with other area french-speaking students and to connect with le Flo Franco on a personal level.
Spanish 8
Students in Ms. Kotsovolos’s Spanish 8 class were recently reviewing subject pronouns in a fun way! A game of tic tac toe using Spanish subject pronouns was enjoyed by all and they did a fantastic job of staying in the target language throughout the lesson.
Students in Ms. Fougere & Ms. Oliveira's classes celebrated the Day of the Dead/ El Dia de Los Muertos by creating their own Calavera poem, a type of satirical poem that dates back over 500 years. Students chose a famous person to write their poems about and decorated a calavera to best represent their choice. Students used their creativity as well as their grammatical concepts of adjective agreement and verb conjugation to demonstrate their understanding of the traditional calavera poems.
Music
Students were working hard today playing their instruments in piano and guitar classes. Additionally, the WB chorus and band have been working hard to prepare for their winter concert! The concert will take place on Tuesday, December 12th at 6:30. Come out and support our music students!
Physical Education
Students in Ms. Widdop's PE class learning how to play disc golf. The weather cooperated and students enjoyed the game.
Grade 8 Art
Students in Ms. Massa's art class were practicing different watercolor techniques such as wash, dry brush, blotting, salt, and others. These techniques will be used to complete the background of their Posada inspired Day of the Dead painting.
Art
Students in Ms. Massa's Art II were asked to collect 5-7 small items centered around the theme of Personal Identity and arrange them as miniature “Still-Life”. Students were challenged to observe and draw all the light, textures, values, and shadows. After learning about the history of a still life, students artfully arranged their objects into a visually interesting composition. Once they were set up students used a spotlight and drew from direct observation, paying attention to composition and proportions. Their end results are truly awesome!
With Halloween that just passed, our Illustration students recently looked at the work of local Illustrator Edward Gorey. Gorey was an artist and designer noted for his silly humor paired with a gothic and macabre aesthetic. The students used Gorey as their muse to create a high contrast, 3d Diorama based on a spooky quote or short story.
Art II students in Mr. Stanfa's class learned about the Principle of Contrast and created Notan Art. Notan in Japanese means a balance and harmony between light and dark values. Students were given the task of choosing opposites and opposing forces as their subject matter. Each student was responsible for their design as well as execution of cutting and pasting their final composition.
Art I students completed their continuous line skeleton drawings. They were challenged to draw a skeleton from observation using only one line with correct proportions. Once drawn, students chose a Halloween or Fall inspired color scheme. Lastly, students had to incorporate the element Pattern to create an interesting composition.
Grade 7 Technology
Students in Grade 7 are using “Makey Makey” circuit boards to create their own video game controller prototypes in computer science class this week. Makey Makey boards are designed to let students create complex inventions using alligator clips and a simple circuit board that contains connections to common keys like the arrow keys. Students learned about electric circuits and conductivity. It was a great way to wrap up the quarter with this fantastic group of students.

A Message from Ann Marie Grinder, Food Service Director
Recognizing National School Lunch Week was October 10th-13th.
Learning is tough work and kids need fuel if they’re going to learn! That’s why a healthy midday meal is crucial to the growing children who go to school. Since 1962, when President John F. Kennedy created National School Lunch Week (NSLW), this annual observance has promoted the importance of a healthy school lunch in a child’s life and the impact it has both in and out of the classroom. Today, the National School Lunch Program serves nearly 30 million children every school day. Not only does it reduce childhood hunger, but it also supports American agriculture.
Farm to School!
We are partnering this year with C.N. Smith Farm, Langwater Farm, and Vineyard Farm to provide fresh and local fruits and vegetables for our school meals and taste testing events in the cafeteria. The list includes local corn, tomatoes, cucumbers, peppers, melons, potatoes, summer squash squash, baby spinach, onions, red and yellow beets, lettuce, broccoli, and of course several varieties of apples!
