Weekly Newsletter: WEEK 16
Welcome back and Happy New Year! I hope you all enjoyed your Christmas break. It is nice to see all the faces again and to begin the new year together. The students are quickly remembering routines again and are doing a great job with their learning. Here are a few reminders about what is going on in the school and the classroom.
- LITERACY & NUMERACY BACKPACKS: Starting Monday, January 16, Literacy and Numeracy Backpacks will be going home. These backpacks are designed to be fun and informative ways for families to share literacy and numeracy learning experiences at home. The backpacks may contain specific them related books and materials for you to enjoy at home with your child. Please discuss with your child the importance of being responsible and taking good care of the backpack when it is their turn. Each backpack has a stuffed animal along with fun learning activities. These will go home on a rotating basis. Students will take them home on Monday and then return them on Thursday of the same week. Please ensure they are returned by Thursday so we can clean and prepare them for the next student. Please feel free to contact me if you have any further questions.
- LITERACY DAY: Please take the time to discuss your child's favorite book character and create, together, a simple costume that allows them to dress up like this character for the day. If your child has a favorite book with this character they can bring the book in for the day to share with friends.
Here are a few things that have been "happening" in the classroom. These are great discussion starters with your child.
1) We have started our unit on penguins. Ask your child what they already know and want to learn about penguins.
2) Ask your child to tell you the month and the year. Ask them what month comes next.
