HOW CAN I SEE THE COUNSELOR?

Students can see their counselor at the following times:

GUIDANCE: HEALTHY RELATIONSHIPS
- Counselors will discuss healthy relationships with students in their Health class.
**FAFSA NIGHTS**
For: Holmes & BC Families
When: Thursday 3/2 & Thursday 3/9
Where: Career Center
Why: The Counseling Dept. will discuss the importance of Financial Aid and assist families in filling out their 2017-2018 FAFSA Application. Mr. Venegas, from the San Antonio Education Partnership, will also discuss various resources including the Café College Scholarship.
STAAR END OF COURSE ASSESSMENTS
STAAR EOC will be administered in March for any student(s) who needs to take the following exams:
- TUESDAY 3/28 - ENGLISH 1
- THURSDAY 3/30 - ENGLISH 2
If a student is unsure if they need to test, they are welcome to speak with their counselor.

- Guidance curriculum is used to help students develop basic life skills.
- Guidance lessons are delivered in various classrooms throughout the year.
12TH GRADE GUIDANCE
TOPICS: Interpersonal effectiveness, Personal Health & Safety
INDIVIDUAL PLANNING
- Individual planning guides students as they plan, monitor, and manage their own educational, career, and personal-social development.
- Through individual planning, students able to:
- Set challenging educational, career, and personal-social goals.
- Make plans for achieving short- and long-term goals.
- Analyze their strengths and weaknesses.
- Assess their current progress to their goals.
- Make decisions that reflect their plans.
RESPONSIVE SERVICES
- Responsive services are used to help students whose immediate personal concerns or problems put their continued personal-social, career, and/or educational development at risk.
- The Counseling Department offers individual and/or group counseling as part of responsive services.
- Responsive services are available through student self-referral, teacher referral, and/or parent referral.
- Small group counseling topics will vary throughout the year, but can include topics such as self-esteem, grief, and stress management.
- Small groups consist of 4 or more students and meet once a week for 6-8 weeks.
- If you are interested in referring a student for group, please contact the student's counselor.
SYSTEM SUPPORT
- System support describes services and management activities which indirectly benefit students.
- System support can include:
- Consultation with teachers
- Participation in campus-based school improvement plans
- Counselor staff development
- Community outreach
COLLEGE & CAREER CENTER
- The College & Career Center is a resource location designed to help our students and parents towards post-secondary success.
- Among many services offered at the College & Career Center, students and/or parents are able to:
- Receive information and/or register for the SAT or ACT
- Obtain scholarship information
- Work on college applications
- Participate in visits from various post-secondary programs (i.e. colleges, technical schools, military)

COMMUNITIES IN SCHOOLS
- Communities in Schools (CIS) can provide additional services to our students on campus in areas such as supportive guidance, academic assistance, help with basic needs, career awareness, enrichment activities, and parent and family engagement.
- You may reach CIS at (210) 397-7000 ext. 6950 or see them in Room D203.
San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP)
- The San Antonio Education Partnership (SAEP) works closely with students to assist in the college application process and providing information on various scholarships in order to help students earn a college degree.
- Mr. Venegas is a Success Advisor on campus from the SAEP who can assist students and parents on Thursdays in the Holmes College & Career Center (A102).
