Weekly Updates for September 7 - 11, 2015

Martin's Musings

I hope all had a restful, relaxing weekend. Hopefully you had a little time to sharpen your saw with family and/or friends.

This week my head continues to be filled with ideas around purposeful planning. Purposeful planning is the vehicle, if you will, that enables us to make sure we are prepared to meet the needs of our students and implement instruction aligned to the standards. Yes, we can talk about standards based grading, PBL, technology integration, deeper learning for students. But if we have not properly deconstructed the standard to understand the depth and rigor needed to master the standard then we will not be able to develop assessment and the strategies necessary to master the standard. So, purposeful planning is key. Key to our data team process, our planning processes, and our students engagement in the learning and the mastering of the standards.

I know the Ms. Gift supports this work in her coaching and planning conversations. I am also designing our PD plan around the support of our growth with in purposeful planning through RCD. Let me know if you would like support in any way.

Just click the bar above to read a little food for thought about PBL in the middle school. Even contains a connection to the 7 Habits.
