Cougar "Prints"
Week of September 4
Welcome back!
On Saturday, while at the beach, I took some time to watch the funeral services for both Aretha Franklin, a music icon, and Senator John McCain. As I listened to the eulogies, I was struck by the impressive lives in which both had lived. Through all of the inspirational messages and praises in each, I was especially drawn to a quote provided by former president Barak Obama as he quoted a passage from Senator McCain's favorite book, For Whom the Bell Tolls, by Ernest Hemingway, "Today is only one day in all the days that will ever be. But what will happen in all the other days that ever come can depend on what you do today."
I was particularly struck by the simple, profound message that resides within this quote. I appreciate how Hemingway was able to capture the simple nature of taking one day at a time and that no matter what has happened in the past, today is a new day and it can be a difference maker.
So I ask, "What can you do today to be a difference maker?"
Have a great week!
Importance of knowing transportation everyday
Safety is our first and primary responsibility as school people. If you do not know how a child is to get home, please use the procedures outlined by Donna last week.
This isn't important just for the first day of school - the same intent focus should be present day-in and day-out.
Title I/Curriculum Night
This night will be similar to those of the past in regards to our grade-level presentations. Please take a look at last year's presentation and will provide further advice on what will be different.
We are thinking 80s theme for the evening, so if you have any specific ideas, please let us know.
Classroom and Safety Audit Walk-Throughs Begin This Week
I will send the district walk-through template in a separate email so you have as a reference point.
The safety audit form is an internal document that we are using to further promote our safe schools initiative. This form was sent to you in a previous email a couple of weeks ago. Donna and I will complete these, albeit, less frequently than the classroom walk-throughs.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to ask.
STAFF SHOUT-OUTS!
Again, a huge shout-out to the entire Coltrane-Webb STEM Elementary faculty and staff! Last week we wrapped up our first full week of school to much fanfare. Parents were especially complimentary for what they experienced as a smooth transition back.
