MoB (Matters of Business)
Edgewood's Weekly Staff Update for the week of 2/11-2/15
We are committed to the journey of developing EACH child to be an inspired learner and a caring, contributing citizen.
Learning Notes
The future of our children is substantially different. Short of realizing a dystopian plot, I can't imagine our world returning to one where one can rely on a set of learned skills to be enough to live a comfortable life. Our kids must learn to learn; they must be problem-solvers, they must be able to think and interact in ways that can't be replaced by a robot.
That's the why of performance tasks and Learning Board. There are many interpretations of the idea of a performance task. In Greenfield, performance tasks (learning experiences) and performance assessments (tasks used for individual assessment) are at the intersection of content, disposition (G21), and practice standard. That makes them kind of like Cinderella's slipper; you can't shove it in any spot and hope that it fits.
Thank you for the work you've done so far on this, and we'll continue to work more on it on February 18th!
TCB (Taking Care of Business)
- If you haven't already, please complete this survey about inclusion. This will help drive the work of our inclusion task force, both at Edgewood and district-wide.
- Here is the Forward Schedule.
- February 18th, we'll be at Edgewood all day. I'll facilitate the district portion here. Make sure to have a performance task; the work won't be very meaningful if you don't have one. The hours for the day will be 7:35-3:35. We'll start our time together at 8:00 am.

Staff Shout Outs to...
- To Jackie, Jenna, Jennifer, and Holly, who had to pick up extra slack when I was at a training Tues/Wed--Meg
- To our 2, 3, 4, and 5 teachers. In our Data Days, the bulk of our conversation focused on how we make Tier 1 richer and more meaningful for all students--especially those who struggle to access content. That shift in conversation shows a substantial shift in our thinking and practice and highlights your commitment to developing EACH child. I'm proud to work with you.
- 4th grade, for taking a stab at creating a unit overview sheet. And to 3rd grade for the inspiration!
- To Anna Bowers for quickly alerting me that a K4 student was not in Kids Connect and in time to stop the bus.
- To Meg, Jackie, Jenna, Jennifer, and Bryan for helping with 4th grade recess.
- Shout out to Lori to bringing it back to UbD during our bonus collaborative time when planning a unit.
