From Student Services...
Just a reminder about notifying Student Services of an absence:
If a student is going to be absent, the parents or guardians must contact Student Services within 24 hours and provide an explanation. The Student Services office is open Monday through Friday from 7am-3pm and a phone answering machine is utilized during non-school hours.
Student Absences may be excused if a parent/guardian has called off the absence by 7:20 am of the next school day. Parent notes, if used, must be turned in to Student Services by 7:50 am of the next school day. If they are not called off or have not turned in a note during the allotted time, the student will then earn a truancy.
Hobart High Schools attendance policy can be found on pages 23-26 of the Student Handbook.

Scott Buhmann nominated for award
Scott Buhmann, JRTOC lead at Hobart High and Junior Achievement advocate, has been nominated as a Junior Achievement Volunteer Champion.
From Junior Achievement:
For several years, Scott has been instrumental in driving JA’s High School Heroes program for his JROTC students. Through the collaboration, this year alone Scott was able to bring more than 90 Hobart High School Students to both Ridgeview and Liberty Elementary, making an impact in 27 classrooms and inspiring hundreds of Hobart Elementary kids with JA’s Work Readiness, Personal Finance and Entrepreneurial programs that help foster a positive attitude and provide the knowledge and skills that will help our youth set personal goals and become successful adults.
I witnessed first-hand the JROTC students being teachers and mentors working with the elementary kids. It was amazing and the teachers at Liberty were truly impressed. The level of training Scott puts into preparing his students for the JA experience was probably the most in depth I’ve seen. He truly helps those kids find their inner strengths and prepares them to be successful in the classroom and feel great about their JA experience. Providing these service learning opportunities for the JRTOC students has also allowed them an opportunity to apply for JA’s High School Hero scholarships. What we are accomplishing here in the region through Junior Achievement is only possible because of advocates like Scott who see the impact that JA programs and volunteer opportunities make for area youth including his students as well.
