PLC - Collaborative Norms
Presume Positive Intent
Assuming that others' intentions are positive promotes and facilitates meaningful dialogue and discussion, and prevents unintentional put-downs. Using positive intentions in speech is one manifestation of this norm.
Put Ideas on the Table
Ideas are the heart of meaningful dialogue and discussion. Label the intention of your comments. For example: "Here is one idea..." or "One thought I have is ..." or "Here is a possible approach..."" or "Another consideration might be ..."
There will be table tents for each team to have visible at meetings to support the practice of these norms to support collaboration.

- Do you need additional resources?
- Do we need to review specific resources used?
- Do we need clarification about expectations with a resource?
Change in the Cafeteria
- The salad bar will be in the same location as the condiments are currently. The condiments will be placed on a small table at the end of the salad bar.
- The salad bar will be in the cafeteria soon, but will NOT be used for any food distribution until Jan. 16th.
- On Jan. 16th, we will begin to offer "grab and go" options available on the salad bar. The "grab and go" options might be clementines, bagged apple slices, bagged carrots, applesauce containers, etc.
- Based on how students respond and handle this "grab and go" option, we will eventually offer students served options on the salad bar. These options would require students to use tongs or a spoon to serve and might be: sliced fresh fruit and vegetables.
- We will notify all staff BEFORE we increase options on the salad bar so teachers have a chance to prepare students.
- The staff salad bar will REMAIN in its current location. It will not be incorporated into the student salad bar.
TO SUPPORT OUR STUDENTS WITH THIS CHANGE, HERE ARE A FEW THINGS WE WILL NEED TO DO:
- lunchroom supervisors will need to be sure to talk with students about the salad bar area and upcoming options available
- classroom teachers will need to talk with students about the salad bar, reminders about importance of hygiene and manners.
- lunchroom supervisors and classroom teachers talk with students about taking what you want BUT making sure you eat what you take. (We will need to monitor for students who take a lot and are NOT eating it. We don't want added waste!)
Classroom teachers can build this into morning meeting and lunchroom supervisors can talk to students while they are eating.
Book Study Highlight
We will discuss chapters 7 and 8 from Help for Billy at our staff meeting on Wednesday. Be prepared by reading these chapters focused on Motivation and Transitioning.
Check out the video below about the importance of trauma-informed practices. Will help to reinforce some of what we have already learned, provide some new idea, and draw attention to taking care of YOURSELF to be the best possible for our students. Worth the 6 minutes to view the video!

Library Check Out
In an effort to help further, please send library books to the library before your check out time so Jill can scan them in. This will allow Jill to work with you in assisting students to find books more quickly and maximize the time you have so you are missing very little additional instructional time.
I know schedules are so tight and every little bit of time we can find helps, so we hope this gives you a little extra when needed.
Schedules
We want to work hard to make sure we have students during our reading and math teaching time. We know that SPED will pull students during this time as they have goals to work on, but we want to make sure other things aren't interfering with these times so you have all of your students during those most important teaching moments.
Thank you all so much for being flexible as we work through the best way to do all of these things and get students in your rooms as much as possible when you need them the most.
Data Cycles
- Everyone is set to give their CFA next week except 3rd grade. (Still working on this one...)
- If you are scoring your CFA before we meet the week of 1/27, please enter them in the data spreadsheet.
- Please do NOT add or delete students or rows to the spreadsheet. This interferes with the formulas. If you need someone added or deleted, please email me, Sue, or Kelly.
- Some grade levels need to send their finalized CFA to me, Sue, and Kelly by Friday of this week.
- Remember to give your first checkpoint within 3-5 days of giving your pretest (CFA).
