Textbook Fees Reminder
As the school year comes to a close, please make sure your 2017-2018 fees have been paid in full by the last day of school. Accounts with unpaid fees will be sent to Kinum, a licensed collection agency. Please log into your students PowerSchool account and click on the Balance Tab to determine if you have an outstanding balance. Thank you!
Please Take Our Optional End-Of-Year Family Survey!
As we begin the process to plan for next year, we would like your feedback on how this school year went for your family and input for next year. The first five fields are required but the last seven fields are optional. We thank you in advance for giving us your honest, yet professional feedback. The survey will be open until the end of business day on Friday, June 1st, 2018. For those of you with multiple children at SGE, it is set up to all for multiple responses. Please click here to access the survey. Thank you!
2018-2019 Immunization Requirements
Parents of children whose immunizations are not up-to-date should contact their health care provider or the Boone County Health Department to schedule an appointment for the necessary immunizations. Some pharmacies also carry the necessary vaccines.
If parents object to immunizations, a written objection must be on file in the school office by September 5, 2018. This must be updated yearly. Children who do not have up-to-date vaccinations records by that date will not be allowed to return to school until the proper immunization information is on file. Students who have appointments with their health care provider after the 20th day, must present proof of that appointment in order to stay in school.

Calendar Reminders and Specifics for 2018-2019
The Board adopted school calendar for the school year starting in August can be found by clicking here.
In keeping with this year’s configuration, our first snow day next school year, if we have one, will be tacked on as a make-up day in May. Thereafter, we will use e-days in real time to avoid additional make-up days. Specifics about how this process would work in the event of a protracted weather event or other reason for cancelation will be shared in the fall by school principals. So, why talk about snow days now? We just cannot assume that it will not snow in August after the way Mother Nature behaved in April of this year!
Following are important dates for parents to note for 2018-2019:
1. High school late start days will occur each Wednesday with school beginning at 9:10 AM. (October 10 may not be a late start due to mandatory national PSAT testing administration, but this will be determined closer to the date and communicated to high school parents.)
2. Middle school e-Days will occur on 9/13, 10/4, 11/15, and 3/21.
3. ELEMENTARY Parent-Teacher Conferences will have specific days/dates in 2018-2019: Wednesday, 10/3 and Thursday, 10/4.
- October 3rd will be a normal student day, and teachers will offer conference times in the 2:30-3:30 time frame.
- October 4th will be e-Day at the elementary level (middle schools are on e-Day on this date as well). Elementary teachers will offer conference times for parents from 11:10 AM to 7:00 PM.
Computer Skills for Incoming 5th Graders!
Mr. Knueven, a 5th grade teacher at ZWest, is offering a summer Eagle Rec Class just for incoming 5th graders. To help bridge 4th graders to middle school, I am again putting on a summer enrichment camp through Eagle Rec called Computer Skills for 5th Graders.
- Week 1: July 16 – 20 - https://register.ryzer.com/camp.cfm?sport=19&id=116579
- Week 2: July 23 – 27 - https://register.ryzer.com/camp.cfm?sport=19&id=116580
This week long class will address skills needed for the 1:1 middle school computer program such as digital citizenship, daily middle school Canvas use, keyboarding skills, and programs within Office 365. This camp would benefit both students going to either ZMS or Z’West.
Technology Boot Camp for Incoming 5th Graders
*ATTENTION INCOMING 5TH GRADERS!*
In an effort to help students transition from elementary school to middle school, we will be offering OPTIONAL 1 hour Tech Boot Camp sessions to any incoming 5th grader at Zionsville Middle School. Boot Camp sessions will be held on July 30, 31, and August 1. Sessions are held at 12:30-1:30PM and 1:30-2:30PM each day. Students will be encouraged to bring their laptop as we learn how to:
- Access and connect to the school’s wireless network
- Log into Office 365
- Access e-mail
- Save files to OneDrive
- Download Office 2016 for FREE if needed
- Log into Canvas
- Set-up the dashboard
- Access messages
- Find daily agenda
- Setup Wireless Printing
Parents are welcome to stay and learn as well, but the 1 hour session will be student focused. Space is limited!
If you are unable to make it to one of these optional sessions, don’t worry! At the start of the school year 5th grade teachers will spend time in class familiarizing students with these tools that will be utilized on a regular basis in and out of school.

High Ability Information
High Ability Spring Identification Deadlines
The Indiana Department of Education requires school districts to identify high ability (gifted) students and provide them with appropriately differentiated curriculum and instruction. In ZCS, we reconsider ability and achievement data of all students each spring to identify any who may need further consideration for high ability differentiation. While the High Ability designation is a state-required label for students, our school district is committed to continuous progress for all students, regardless of designation. Accelerated content is common in our classrooms as are heightened expectations and instructional levels and high-achieving peers. Instructional methods regularly group and regroup students with differentiated materials and goals. Whether or not a child is identified as High Ability, our teachers are committed to regular assessment of skills and knowledge and matching experiences to challenge each child and help him or her make maximum academic growth. We are proud to be a high-performing school district with high expectations for all students.
For students currently in grades 1-3: All students are considered for high ability each year. Our identification team looks at both achievement (NWEA) and ability (OLSAT). Since these vary from year to year with young students, we re-look at every student each spring. Parents will be notified by June 10 if their child has been recommended for differentiation based on the need for accelerated instruction or curriculum. If your child was not identified through our extensive process, parents may appeal the decision. Parents can complete the appeal process by June 15. Forms are located on the High Ability website: https://1.cdn.edl.io/STFd2znmUm9v64tOK0o5GHa56Sylujl5JYhwFChIXdtXGo0P.pdf
For students currently in grades 4-7: All students are considered for high ability each year. Our identification team considers either achievement (NWEA) or ability (OLSAT) when making decisions. Parents will be notified by June 10 if their child has been recommended for differentiation based on the need for accelerated instruction or curriculum. If your child was not identified through our extensive process, parents may appeal the decision. Parents can complete the appeal process by June 15. Check those Coca-Cola Codes
Dear Parents,
We’re excited to share that our school is part of the Coca-Cola Give program. This opens up Stonegate Elementary to new funding opportunities to help improve learning environments for students. The best part? Donations don’t come out of your own pocket.
When you make Coca-Cola purchases, you simply enter the product codes (found on bottle caps or paper packaging) here: https://us.coca-cola.com/give/schools/ and our school receives a donation.Enter the code yourself or drop off your product codes at the front office and we will enter for you. Codes are found on all Coke products which includes Dasani bottled water. Find the codes on the case packaging or bottle caps.
Sincerely, Stonegate PTO

Did You Know?
ZCS, like other public schools, has a no-idling policy for vehicles on campus. The purpose of the policy is to limit vehicle emissions that might be brought into the schools and adversely impact the health of our students and staff. If you are stopped on campus for more than 5 minutes, please remember to turn off your engine. We thank you for abiding by this policy to help reduce the exposure to these emissions.
