HAPPY 2017
SPEAKING FROM MY HEART
This New Year, my number one goal is for you to embrace the fact that reaching your summit in life will never come without a price. You have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable and stretch beyond your limits. I live by this quote, “We don't rise to the level of our expectations, we fall to the level of our training.” To be the best, we have to understand it takes hard work and persistence. Why avoid short-term pain, to guarantee 10X longer-term pain? You have to practice doing small groups to be good at it. You have to practice listening skills to be good at listening. You have to practice being kind to yourself first, to be kind to others. You have to practice generating joy each and every day, to have joy. Roberts, realize this, when opportunity comes, it is too late to prepare. Now is the time for you to establish your routines, habits, and rituals. I am proud to say as your leader that you are never alone at Roberts. There is a large tribe that is always fighting around you. We have created a tribe that will always put family above anything at Roberts. This 2017, what are you willing to practice regardless of the pain to achieve the best version of you?

Roberts Positive Tips for the 2017
- Stay Positive. You can listen to the cynics and doubters and believe that success is impossible or you can trust that with faith and an optimistic attitude all things are possible.
- Take a daily "Thank You Walk." It will create a fertile mind ready for success.
- Eat more foods that grow on trees and plants and less foods manufactured in plants.
- Talk to yourself instead of listen to yourself. Instead of listening to your complaints, fears and doubts, talk to yourself and feed your mind with words of truth and encouragement.
- Gandhi said, "I will not let anyone walk through my mind with their dirty feet."
- Be a great team member. When you help your team improve, you improve.
- Don't chase success. Decide to make a difference and build meaningful relationships and success will find you.
- Get more sleep. You can't replace sleep with a double latte.
- Don't waste your precious energy on gossip, energy vampires, issues of the past, negative thoughts or things you cannot control.
- You don’t have to be great to serve but you have to serve to be great. Look for opportunities to Love, Serve and Care.
- Live your purpose. Remember why you do what you do. We don't get burned out because of what we do. We get burned out because we forget why we do it.
- There's no such thing as an overnight success. Anything worthwhile takes time to build.
- Trust that everything happens for a reason and expect good things to come out of challenging experiences.
- Implement the No Complaining Rule. If you are complaining, you're not leading.
- Don't seek happiness. Instead live with love, passion and purpose and happiness will find you.
- Focus on "Get to" vs "Have to." Each day focus on what you get to do, not what you have to do. Life is a gift not an obligation.
- The next time you "fail" remember that it’s not meant to define you. It’s meant to refine you.
- Smile and laugh more. They are natural anti-depressants.
- Enjoy the ride. You only have one ride through life so make the most of it and enjoy it.
Does All Means ALL?
Jennifer and I were fortunate enough to attend the RTI at Work Institute in November. It was eye opening to say the least and we walked away with so many great ideas. The Institute confirmed that our Tier 3 intervention is exactly where it needs to be. We are reaching those students who are below grade level and closing their gaps through reading and math intervention classes; however, we wondered, are we doing enough when students fall behind on grade level content at Tier 2? Are we systematically filling those gaps? How are we ensuring that we fill gaps for ALL students in ALL core subjects? Destination Time was intended to be Tier 2 intervention, but is it doing all of these things? Tutoring helps, but is it systematic?
Mike Mattos, who we have the pleasure of seeing on Tuesday, presented an extremely successful middle school intervention model at the Institute that does all of the things above. We would like to implement this model with a Roberts spin in hopes that we can meet the needs of ALL students through Destination Time. The model was presented to Team Leaders in early December and hopefully word has spread. Let me be real…It will not be easy and it will not be without fault, but hopefully what it will be is a systematic approach to ensuring that ALL students have access to targeted intervention in a timely manner. Tuesday during the faculty meeting we will get into specifics. Please come with an open and inquisitive mind as we work together to ensure that all means ALL.
Thanks,
Christine
