Sept. 3 Safety Precautions at Schools Communication
Mid-Day Update
Sept. 3, 2021
Dear PSD community,
This is the second update for staff and families about today’s events.
As we communicated by email this morning, PSD and Fort Collins Police Services were made aware of a possible shooting threat shared on Snapchat. The post referenced a possible shooting to take place on Friday at “Fort Collins schools.” FCPS immediately investigated and confirmed there is no verified threat toward any specific school or individual.
We wanted to reiterate that in response to this information, PSD and our law enforcement partners increased safety measures across the district as a precaution. This includes:
School Resource Officers are more visible at schools today as a precaution.
Law enforcement officers are spending more time patrolling near schools.
PSD Safety and Security and Facilities staff are out in schools.
The PSD Mental Health and Employee Assistance Services team are available to support students and staff at schools.
We are in close and frequent communication with our law enforcement partners, including FCPS, which continues to investigate.
We also want to correct a high volume of misinformation that is being shared in our communities by sharing what is true. For the most-accurate information, please rely on verified sources, including PSD and Fort Collins Police Services (through the PSD and FCPS websites and social media). We know the following to be true:
No PSD school has needed to go into secure status or evacuated today because of this possible threat. This includes rumors at Rocky Mountain and Poudre high schools, and Blevins and Boltz middle schools. Olander Elementary School was in secure status for a few minutes Friday for an unrelated situation.
Photos of officers and a man at Horsetooth and Taft Hill roads have been incorrectly associated with the possible school threat. FCPS responded to a report of an individual wearing tactical-style clothing. He was contact by FCPS and cooperative. There was no basis for charges, and the man was released.
This situation may prompt a range of feelings, for our students, staff and parents/guardians.
For students and families: If your student wants to talk with someone, they may connect with the mental health professional at their school. The following are other resources:
The SummitStone Community Crisis Center is available at 970-494-4200
For staff: If you want to talk with someone, Employee Assistance Services is always available. Call 970-488-4925 if you would like to make an appointment or need to talk to someone.
The safety of our students and staff is our top priority in PSD.
Thank you for your continued partnership.
Sincerely,
Poudre School District

Dear PSD community,
Some of you may hear about a social media post that referenced a possible school shooting threat about “Fort Collins schools.”
Fort Collins Police Services immediately investigated. Although the nature of the threat was vague and there was a lack of information about the original source, the following steps have been implemented today as a precaution:
Schools will operate as usual.
SROs will be more visible at schools today as a precaution.
Patrol officers will spend more time today patrolling near schools located in their assigned areas.
We know this information may be unsettling. If your student wants to talk with someone, they may connect with the mental health professional at their school. The following are other resources:
The SummitStone Community Crisis Center is available at 970-494-4200
Those with information about this situation are asked to report it directly to their School Resource Officer or Contact SRO Cpl. Keith Maynard at 970-224-6035. As always, if you see something, say something – either to an adult at school or through Safe2Tell at 1-877-542-7233.
Sincerely,
