Criminal Justice Surpasses First Year Expectations

Hard to believe it was just over a year ago that we were hiring for a new teaching position to start up a Criminal Justice program at Walker Career Center. In it's first year, Mr. Barney was able to come in as a retired police officer and first year educator to build a top notch program. We all know teaching is a difficult enough task, but to come in and start a double period program as a first year teacher with limited resources is an entirely different ball game. However, Mr. Barney accepted that challenge head on and was able to engage his students on a daily basis while gathering some nice high tech gadgets throughout the school year that will only continue to assist the program in the future. Throughout the year, Mr. Barney was regularly recognized by his students with countless thank you letters as he created a family environment in his classroom. In return, I am excited to announce that Mr. Joe Barney was named the Walker Career Center New Teacher of the Year. Thank you for all of your hard work this year Mr. Barney, it has been so exciting to watch and learn from you this school year!
