Newsletter Week 1 Term 4

Titahi Bay Intermediate School Friday 22nd October 2021

Principal's Korero

Welcome back to the final term of the year. I am sure that you all have enjoyed your two weeks with your whānau and were able to get out and about and enjoy the crazy weather that we had. The weather this week has been great and students are all outside enjoying the fresh air and fine weather.

Over the holidays we had our hall floor sanded and finished with a few coats of polyurethane. It has come up really well and looks beautiful, so we will all be taking more care with it to ensure that it lasts another 10 years.

Attached to this newsletter is our What's On for Term 4, so put the important dates into your calendar - fingers crossed we can get events underway depending on Covid Alert Levels.

Social Media Awareness and Safety - at the end of last term we spoke to all students about the use of such Apps as Tik Tok, Instagram, Facebook, What's App etc. and the legalities of it. We have a number of students who have created accounts using our school name which is illegal and have a number of students and wider whānau who are followers of it. Students have been made aware that following these account implicates their involvement or support of the conversations that are taking place. Please take the time over the long weekend to look through your child's phone and ensure that they are engaging in Apps appropriately.

A number of these Apps also have age limits and our students are not old enough to be signed up to them, so using fraudulent information to gain access. Unfortunately we also had some students editing photographs of staff members and creating Tik Tok videos using these images. We need to ensure that the safety of our students and staff is paramount especially with the online world.

A reminder that next Monday is Labour Day so enjoy your day with your whānau and we will see everyone back on board on Tuesday.

Netball Tri-Series

We were invited by Rangikura School to participate in a Tri-Series mini-tournament yesterday at Te Rauparaha Arena where we had a Year 8 netball team play against Papakowhai and Rangikura Schools. Our team was successful in wining both games as well as coping with the interruption of a fire alarm.

A big thanks to Pip for inviting us and Catherine Balt for coaching the team. Well done team!
