Here's What We Are Learning
This week during reading workshop we worked on identifying the different plots in fiction stories. We learned how authors use copcat, circle, and switch plots in their stories. We looked at several characters from several books to see how they fit into these plots. Next week we will begin reading Charlotte's Web and pay attention to how the author used these different plots, as well as, stuck, contest, and transformation plots in this book.
This week we continued our poetry unit. We enjoyed working on color, haiku, and couplet poems. We took our couplet poems and put them into Garageband to create our own song. Ask your child to share their song with you. We will continue this unit next week.
This week we began exploring multiplication a little more with Unit 9. We worked on multiplying and dividing by multiples of 10s, 100s, and 1000s. We also worked on creating our auditions tape for the fractions cooking show. In addition to this, we worked on learning partial products. We will continue this next week.
What's Growing in our Classroom?
This week we tended to our lettuce that we planted. We will continue to keep an eye on this and watch it grow this coming week. Our special visitor has left the outside area where we have planted the lettuce.
