MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL OPHUS
Dear Fairview Families,
I hope you were all able to stay nice and warm with plenty of time indoors this week as we saw our lowest temperatures of the winter thus far! While it has been cold outside, Fairview continues to be a warm and nurturing place inside for our students, and we’ve all enjoyed another good week of teaching and learning. As mentioned last week, we have much to look forward to in the coming weeks at Fairview. Starting next week, Leapin’ Into Literature will begin! This is a PTO program where volunteers come in during the lunch hour to read new books purchased by the PTO to classes of students during recess. On their scheduled days, students in a given homeroom will have the chance to stay in from recess to hear the story read aloud by a guest reader. Students are not required to participate, but are encouraged to do so. Your child’s teacher will let them know what days they are scheduled for Leapin’ Into Literature. All books purchased are donated to our LRC for students to check out for years to come. Special thanks to Fairview parents Jen Wakolbinger and Andrea Oswald for their leadership in organizing this opportunity for our students! Our PTO continues to create such positive experiences for our students and school. As shared last time, to keep our PTO running strong, we are holding our Falcon Jump fundraiser. We hope students will participate if they are able. Click here for more details and information about Falcon Jump! If each child is able to raise $40, we will meet our goal of raising $20,000 for the PTO and will be able to also provide funding for a new projector in our gymnasium. Thank you for your participation!
Next week, our staff will be having its Winter Data Day where we analyze the student data we gathered in January. In the process of data analysis, teams of teachers look at grade level data to identify trends and establish goals in our work with students. Additionally, we analyze individual student data to see which students qualify for additional support through our literacy support, math support, or accelerated/enrichment programs. If your child qualifies for additional support, parents will be notified. It is so helpful to have this data at our fingertips to allow us to make good decisions about our instruction and students.
As we head into another weekend, take some time to talk to your child about if they are interested in signing up for the Science Fair. The due date to sign up is on this coming Monday, January 31st. The Science Fair will take place on Wednesday, February 23rd. You can sign up using the information shared at this link. Similarly, if students are interested in trying out for the Fairview Follies, audition videos are due on Flipgrid by February 1st. Click this link for more information and the link to post your child’s audition.
Thank you for taking the time to read through today’s newsletter. Have a wonderful weekend and we look forward to seeing our students again on Monday!
Sincerely,
Dan Ophus
Fairview Principal

DRESS FOR OUTDOOR RECESS
Please make sure your children are dressed to go out for recess. Unless it is raining or the temperature /wind chill is too cold (15 degrees or below, real-feel temperature) the students will go out every day for recess. Please write your student’s last name on a tag in their coat and snowpants so they don't end up in our Lost and Found. It would also be helpful to put their name on the bag that they bring their snow gear in every day.
All students will go out with their class unless we have a doctor’s note limiting their participation. If a student has been ill and he/she is not feeling well enough to participate in all the activities of the school day, perhaps another day at home will insure a healthy return to school.
