Please have your child(ren) check the lost and found for any missing items. The lost and found is located in the front lobby vestibule and parents are encourage to check it out anytime during school hours.
ADMINISTRATION UPDATE
Dear CCS Families, Caregivers and Community Members,
We would like to share with you the following information:
Veterans Day
Veterans Day is a special day to remember all of the men and women who have served our country. Happy Veterans Day and thank you for your dedication and sacrifice.
Thanksgiving Food Baskets
Just a few final days to get in your contributions for the Charlotte community’s Thanksgiving baskets. We appreciate your generosity for others who need us at this time.
Happy Educational Support Professionals Day on Wednesday November 16th, 2022! There are nine services under the Education Support Professionals umbrella, including clerical, custodial and maintenance, food, health and student, para-educators, security, skilled trades, technical, and transportation services. As you can imagine, these professionals are the backbone to our school. Please reach out to ESPs who may support our students’ day to express gratitude.
CCS Holiday Support for Families
As we enter the time of year when we start making plans for gathering with friends and loved ones, as a school community we want to make sure that our students and families are supported during this season of giving.
The CCS community, as well as local organizations, have been generous with donations and we plan to carry that on this year. We will again this year provide gift cards to families in need to help ensure all of our kids experience the magic that the season brings.
If you are interested in this support for your child(ren), please complete this form as soon as possible. Our hope is to have all requests received by Monday, December 5th, so that we can make sure we fulfill all needs.
All requests will remain confidential, and be seen only by Betsy Lloyd, School Counselor, at Charlotte Central School. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to reach out to Betsy at (802) 425-6613 or blloyd@cvsdvt.org.
Vermont Kids Against Tobacco (VKAT) Club for 5th and 6th Grade Students
Amy Sayre, our Student Assistance Program Counselor at CCS, is excited to start a VKAT club for 5th and 6th grade CCS students after school on Mondays. Amy received a grant from the Vermont Department of Health to launch this program throughout the district. VKAT is a health promotion/education for students interested in educating their peers and community about the dangers of smoking/vaping. The first meeting will be on 12/05 from 3-4 in 211.
We hope you all have a safe and restful weekend.
All the best,

SHIFT OF MINDSET - BY JEN R
What was the last mistake you made? When have you celebrated the mistakes of others? For many of us, these questions seem abstract and uncomfortable. This week, I was waiting in a line of cars at a T-intersection and was so frustrated at the car directly in front of me that didn’t have their turn signal on. With at least five cars to go before my turn to turn, I had plenty of time to be critical of the other driver in front of me. When it was finally my turn to go, I started to make a left turn and realized (this is a little embarrassing) I did not have my turn signal on. The shock of my negative thoughts and judgment toward the other driver shifted to humility and empathy.
While I’m not shining the best light on my own driving or my inner-voice about other drivers, I am honoring the outcome of the situation. I thought deeply about my role as a parent, teacher and school administrator. How do I respond to the mistakes of others? Am I fostering a community that honors everyone for taking risks, for making mistakes, for being vulnerable and for getting better each and every day? Or am I shaming those for making errors, for setting perfection as a goal, or ostracizing someone who struggles to get the “right” answer.
When I process with youth about a behavioral infraction, my mantra is “I am glad you made this mistake with me. As an instructional leader, my mission is to continuously teach you and learn from you.” This leaves me open to understand their individual circumstances and their experience in the situation. It also gives me space to unpack and then teach the “intent vs impact” of their actions.
CVSD recalibrated our destination for this year, different from the last couple of years where we navigated a pandemic while developing an education system with parameters never experienced before. We are a learning community focused on growth and belonging for all; through the teaching and learning about Identity, Connection, Proficiency and Direction. In order for all students to feel safe; emotionally, physically and socially, we need to reinforce a message of continuous reflection and growth from mistakes. We need to unite in a message to all the youth in our community that we have an unconditional commitment to their wellbeing through belonging and acceptance
GREAT AMERICAN SMOKEOUT
Tobacco use is the single largest preventable cause of disease and premature death in the US. The Great American Smokeout (GASO) is a national event, which occurs this year on November 17th, that challenges all smokers to quit smoking for 24 hours. While cigarette smoking rates have dropped (from 42% in 1965 to 15.1% in 2015), vape, cigar, pipe, and hookah are very much on the rise. Smoking kills people – there’s no “safe” way to smoke tobacco.
If past Smokeouts are any indication, as many as one-third of the nation's more than 45 million smokers could be taking the day off from smoking! Join others across the nation and use this day to plan to quit, or to plan and quit smoking that day. By quitting — even for one day — smokers will be taking an important step towards a healthier life – one that can lead to reducing cancer risk.
Check out 802Quits.org for tips, resources, and support available free to all Vermonters everyday!
Please consider modeling healthy behaviors for the young people in your life. If you decide to participate in the Great American Smokeout, share with them the reasons that you are quitting. They look up to you so much and can learn a lot from you about why you have decided to quit. If you aren’t someone who smokes or vapes, share that story as well. What a great opportunity to connect with your child!
The 802Quits Vermont Quit Partners also offer:
Group cessation classes - a forum for peer support, encouragement, and goal setting.
Tools, such as distraction putty (to relieve stress and keep hands and minds busy) and pedometers (to track steps between cigarettes).
Free nicotine replacement therapy - including gum, patches or lozenges
The Tobacco Treatment Specialists working as Quit Partners in our area can be contacted through the UVM Medical Center's Community Health Improvement Office at 802-847-2278 or CHITTS@vtmednet.org. People can find a Quit Partner near them and learn about other ways to quit at 802quits.org.
Please feel free to reach out to me, Amy Sayre, if you have any questions or would like help accessing resources or services at asayre@cvsdvt.org

LET'S TALK!
Last March, the school district softly rolled out a new communication tool called Let's Talk. Let’s Talk makes it easy for parents, students, staff, and community members to ask questions, request information, and share feedback. Over the summer, we added topics for each of our schools. See this blog post to learn more and view a short video that explains how easy it is to use Let's Talk.
STRATEGIC PLANNING
We recently held a number of strategic planning community forums to gain insight from all members of our community and inform the district's work over the next 5 years. We have extended the deadline for the strategic planning survey to November 11. We hope to hear from even more community members, staff, and students! https://bit.ly/CVSDOct22
22-23 CVSD BUDGET MEETING SCHEDULE
CVSD invites all community members to learn about and join in on the budget development process by attending upcoming School Board meetings. All members of the CVSD community are always welcome to attend Board meetings. See the topics and schedule in the image above and on the Budget page of the district's website. https://www.cvsdvt.org/budget
Links to join the virtual meetings will be available on that page and on the website calendar. We will also post the presentations on the Budget page afterward for those that cannot attend.
