We share our world with more than seven billion people – people who have different ideas, interests, and beliefs. Yet our common humanity can be the bridge that connects us to one another. Listen to these words: We cannot live only for ourselves. A thousand fibers connect us with our fellow human beings . . . .* It's true, you know. We are connected in a thousand ways. We are connected by our common need for basic things like clean water and fresh air, food to eat and a place to sleep. We are connected by our need to love and be loved, our need to be heard, our need to matter in the world, our need for security and peace. Today, instead of focusing on what separates us, focus on what connects us as human beings.
