Your Pathway Questions, Answered
We've had inquiries about why Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship are not available as choice options in the School Choice application process. It's a great question because it reflects the interest in students studying these fields to prepare for their future. I'd like to address the question-behind-the-question first: Does not listing those two courses of study signal any lower level of commitment to these programs? My answer? Not at all!
Our primary pathways have fully developed course sequences and accompanying industry certifications that offer many opportunities for students to be program completers. Artificial Intelligence and Entrepreneurship are still developing and do not have as many courses and certifications in place. But we're working to expand them and have them formally established as standalone pathways in the future.
National Junior Honor Society & National Honor Society Update
It's finally time! We registered our chapter affiliation with the national organization, National Association of Secondary School Principals, which sponsors the NJHS/NHS organizations. Now that we've met the requirement of operation for completing at least one semester of operation, we are ready to invite students to apply. Here's what you can expect:
- On Monday, January 22nd, the NJHS/NHS course will appear on the MyLearning dashboard for students who meet the eligibility requirements for membership.
- Applications will be completed online.
- Applications are DUE February 9th.
- Students and families will be notified by March 1 of their application status.
- Questions about eligibility to apply may be directed to Ms. Shoup after 1/24/24, if the NJHS/NHS course does not appear on the student's dashboard.
Celebrate Literacy Week

District Wide SAT ACT EOC Prep Day
We are excited to offer a District Wide SAT ACT EOC Prep Day for students. This event will take place at multiple host-site high schools across the county on February 24th. The sessions will take place face-to-face and will be supported by teacher leaders. The teacher leaders will offer sessions that include content to better prepare students for content and skills related to upcoming assessments. This event is to offer high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to participate in a one-day event that will hone their skills to support meeting the full option graduate and college entrance requirements. Please see the Sched for the sessions linked here to preview the session offerings at each site. Share this flyer with students and families as soon as possible as sessions are taking place beginning Saturday, February 24th.
4th annual Virtual College and Career Fair
Pasco County Schools is hosting the 4th annual Virtual College and Career Fair on February 28 from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this event is to ensure helpful information is shared with middle and high school families across the district as they plan for college entrance and/or careers after high school. Each session will have a live presentation accessible through our online event platform, Sched, with representatives from College, Career, and Armed Forces.

Middle School Student Coursework Interest Survey
As you know, our school and district are committed to fostering the highest-quality learning experience for its students.
To support these goals, we will be encouraging students in grades 5 through 8, to participate in a brief survey sometime between January 22nd through February 14th. Survey questions will address students’ views on their coursework, their school experience, and the ways in which our school supports their educational goals. Results will only be used to inform and improve academic supports and advanced/accelerated coursework placement for students. This will also help middle and high schools develop support and determine course placement for incoming 6th and 9th grade students for the 24-25 school year.
We foresee only positive benefits for your student(s) and are excited to gather data that will enable us to better prepare all students to succeed. It is the right of the parent and/or guardian to request to exempt their student from the Student Coursework Interest Survey. At the beginning of the school year, parents provided their selection for surveys on the consent form located in the myStudent Parent Portal. Please review your selection and ensure it is correct, if it is incorrect, please make the changes necessary in the myStudent Parent Portal, at least three days prior to the beginning of the survey and alert your administration to the change.
Student Drivers On Campus
We're excited to welcome some new drivers to our campus - STUDENTS!
To allow for safer traffic flow, we will be designating spots at the north end of the school for student parking. The student lot will move as the number of student drivers increases in subsequent terms.
Do YOU have a new driver in your family? Information about how to obtain a student parking pass is available on our school website,

Yearbook Sales Are Winding Down
The introductory price of $60 for the first ever yearbook will end on 1/10. Prices will increase for the final sales to complete our order. We do not anticipate having extra yearbooks available when the order is received. Please make sure to preorder a yearbook for your student as a keepsake of our inaugural year!
We're also accepting business ads, which help our yearbook team ensure that the team meets the budget for publishing the yearbook. If you own a business, please consider buying an ad.

How to Coach Your Child Even When You Aren’t the Coach
One of the first things we hear from our kids is, “Daddy, watch this.” Watching is a huge part of being a dad. We watch them learn to walk and talk. We watch them jump off the side of the pool. We watch them play at the park. We watch them play sports and activities. We even watch them using apps on our phones. Dads, we watch our kids a lot! As we watch, we see the things they are doing well, the things they aren’t, and everything in between, including when they're playing sports or doing other activities. Knowing when and how coaching your child is a good idea in sports and activities is important but can be tricky. When we get it right, coaching our kids lets them know we are paying attention and that we are there for them. The question of when and how to coach our kids is an important one, a question I wish I had known to ask from the beginning. Here are some thoughts on how every dad can coach his kids’ sports and activities, even when he isn't the coach.
Huddle up with your kids and ask, “When is the best time for me to help you with____________?”
