What's New @ the Library
November 2019
Who Wants to Win an Extended Lunch for a Day
The first teacher who reaches out to partner with Mrs. Cruz on the Letters About Literature competition will win an extended lunch period for one day. This prize will be redeemable from January 6-January 31. This competition is a great way to pair reading and writing and to help students be reflective. In order to be eligible 75% of the students in your class must submit their letter by December 17th.

National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance
December 7th is recognized as National Pearl Harbor Day of Remembrance. Do you need resources to teach this important historic date to your students? Visit the library. A special history display is coming soon.

Congrats to HOSA on their Blood Drive
Librarian Nicole Cruz donates apheresis during the HOSA Blood Drive. Did you know that
an apheresis donation is a specialized process that allows Vitalant to collect only specific blood components from our donors using a machine that separates and collects red blood cells, platelets or plasma (or a combination of one or more). The remaining components are safely returned to the donor. All blood donors can make apheresis donations if they meet certain criteria.
This was my first time to donate other than whole blood. I felt more energy than I usually do after a donation. I'm definitely going to participate at the next HOSA blood drive, too.

Fine Amnesty Extended to First Week of December
Please ask your students to return their books. As of today more than $60 in late fees have been waived and 500 books have been returned. Encourage your students to visit the library and check to see if they can save money this week-December 2-6.

Congratulations to SA3 Students and Staff
Sharyland Advanced Academic Academy is the first campus to reach 100% completion on the digital citizenship lessons. Have you helped your students become better digital citizens? Remember all 4th block classes must complete both lessons. Need a refresher on the login steps? Email ncruz@sharylandisd.org

Congratulations to Gisela Garcia-Winner of a $10 Subway Gift Card
Did you participate in the library's Thanksgiving photo display? We asked faculty and staff to send us a photo of something or someone who they are thankful for. We gave a snack to all participants and one lucky faculty member earned a $10 Subway gift card. Gisela Garcia, SHS math teacher, won the gift card. She submitted a photo of her AWESOME math department.

Library Encourages Self-Care
Did you take the opportunity to check your glucose on World Diabetes Day-November 14th?
Mrs. Cruz partnered with Yolanda Pate and her clinical students. Remember to take care of yourself and be in good health.

Basketball Fan
Are you ready to support our girls and boys basketball teams? Mrs. Cruz will be there. Her daughter Anastasia plays for the Lady Rattlers Varsity Team. Coach Stan Asumnu, mobile lab manager, is the Varsity Boys First Assistant to Coach Danny Moran. And Mr. Cruz, Nicole's husband, coaches the JV Light Girls Team. Basketball is in the house! Go out and support our teams. You'll see your librarian there.
