Happy Last Day of School!
Dear Lander Families,
Summertime has come and we have had a wonderful school year, we are grateful for you sharing your children with us! Our students have had many great experiences this year and we believe that the strength of our community and wholehearted passion that our staff has to make our school a wonderful place of learning for our students makes Lander a truly special school.
To all the parents and guardians, thanks for getting your kids to school on time each day, with two little ones of my own, I know the challenge! Thank you for providing rich and engaging, well-rounded experiences for your children and knowing that education is about joy, wonder and fostering curiosity, along with the development of social skills that are necessary to succeed. For these, and a million other things, we are truly grateful.
To those families who are leaving us for new places and adventures, we wish you all the best! To families who are returning please see the important dates listed below as you begin to prepare for next school year. I hope everyone has a wonderful school year and we will see you in August!
Lander Parent-Teacher Group Donates $11,000!!
We are excited to share that through the fundraising events by our Lander Parent Group, this year we have accepted donations totaling $11,000!! The funds have gone towards purchasing flexible seating for our classroom and technology and resources for our Lander Makerspace. We had originally planned to purchase a set Virtual Reality Headsets for our school, but have found that the recent research has shown mixed reviews on its use in the primary classrooms.
We will also be unveiling soon, a plan for our own Lander Sport and Fitness Area, which will be an extension of our Physical Education Program, we will be equipping this area with kid-sized bicycles, and other fitness equipment aimed at providing our students with more opportunities for fitness and learning habits for a healthy lifestyle.
The partnerships between our Parent Group and school continue to be essential to our growth and expanding options for our students, we are so very grateful for this and the support of our families and community members that buy cookie dough, Marco's Pizza, make donations and participate in our many fundraisers throughout the year!!
Introducing Mr. Brown
It is bittersweet that Mrs. Laurel Ravida will be leaving us, she has been selected as the next Principal at Gates Mills Elementary School and she will be wonderful in that position. However, I am excited to introduce Mr. Jalen Brown the next Assistant Principal at Lander Elementary School. Mr. Brown comes to us from Maple Heights City Schools, where he is currently a 6th grade teacher, Administrative Intern and PBIS coordinator. Mr. Brown has also served as a member of the District’s Labor Management team, was a Site Administrator for a summer program aimed at closing gaps for at-risk students and is also the founder of a non-profit organization that is dedicated to the development of underrepresented youth. Mr. Brown brings passion, energy and a strength of building relationships with him to Lander. Mr. Brown received his Bachelor’s Degree in Education with a minor in Organizational Leadership and Management from Miami University and his Master’s Degree from Cleveland State University in Educational Administration. Mr. Brown’s personal mission is, “to at least engage, and to at most inspire scholars to excel in all endeavors”, his passion for education will come through from the moment you meet him.
Keep the learning going...
