7th Grade Life Science

Mrs. Terra Brown's Class - Team 7 Alpha

This week - Cereal Box for Body Organ System

We are working on our Cereal Box Project for a body organ system of the student's choice. The students have received a project sheet and rubric explaining the criteria. (A copy is on Mrs. Brown's website, if needed.) Each student should have their caregiver sign the project sheet to signify that he/she understands the student has a project due THIS Friday.

The cereal box is not the important part... the INFORMATION TO GO ON THE BOX IS IMPORTANT!! If a cereal box can not be obtained, please just bring the expected documentation on Friday or before.

Mrs. Brown is available to help with the project before school from 7:45-8:15 Monday - Thursday, during homeroom and during 1st period. All classes went to the computer lab on Monday and will also go on Wednesday. If the student is focused on completing the project, most of it can be completed in class.

Homework?!

Homework is required in Life Science but not in the traditional sense. Rarely will a worksheet or assignment come home to be completed independently - unless the assignment was started in class and needs to be finished before the next class period.

Homework is to... Practice! Practice! Practice! STUDYING the vocabulary will be key! The students will create foldables, flashcards, graphic organizers, and other study guides in class to aid with their learning of the vocabulary. If the science information is reviewed nightly for at least a concentrated 10 minutes, your child will have success!

Most science classes boil down to a vocabulary class with scientific concepts that apply this vocabulary. If a student doesn't understand the vocabulary, the scientific concept is more difficult to grasp.

Mrs. Brown is available to help with an assignment, tutor, provide extra time with the teacher, etc. each morning, Monday through Thursday, starting at 7:45 AM. She loves science and she loves helping students! After-school SOAR tutoring session are available with Mrs. Haymore on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:10-5:10. If you need assistance, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Brown.

2nd Quarter Units: Genetics

Next week we'll concentrate on genetics: the role of genes and chromosomes in the process of inheriting a specific trait; comparing and contrasting organisms that reproduce sexually or asexually; and recognizing that selective breeding can produce plants or animals with desired traits.
