Amy Depa Named May Volunteer of the Month
We are very fortunate at West Cypress Hills Elementary, for we have fabulous volunteers who are willing to come to our campus to serve as WatchDOGS, library volunteers, mentors, literacy partners, homeroom parents, cupcake fairies, and secret readers--just to name a few things that they do for us!
This month's West Cypress Volunteer of the Month has two children attending our school--one in Kindergarten and one in 3rd Grade. She was nominated by the WCHE Staff for Volunteer of the Month because she serves as a homeroom mom, volunteers in our library, volunteers to help in any way, and she has already served a little more than 226 hours in volunteer service to our school.
Our May Volunteer of the Month is Amy Depa. Congratulations, Amy, and many thanks for all of the ways that you make WCHE a great place to be.

STAAR Test Schedule for May @ WCHE
May 15th is the day our 3rd and 4th graders will be sitting for their STAAR reading test, and 5th graders have an opportunity to retest in reading.
On May 16, our 5th graders take their STAAR science test.
During the STAAR tests, we need volunteers to assist with test administration. We have two time slots available each day and will need volunteers on Monday, May 14, Tuesday, May 15, and again on Wednesday, May 16. Volunteers are needed between 8 am and noon each day. While students are taking their STAAR tests, visitors and "non-STAAR" volunteers are unable to be on our campus. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Volunteers Needed During Lunch Time
WCHE student lunches begin at 10:45 and end at 1:10. We'd love to have volunteers come in to assist students with opening their drinks, opening condiment packages, passing out plastic-ware and napkins, etc. If you're looking for something fun to do any time between 10:45 and 1:10, please sign up here. Please remember to save your Box Tops for Education and donate them to West Cypress Hills. The classroom with the most Box Tops each quarter wins a special prize.

2017-2018 Yearbooks Should Arrive Around May 15
Due to high demand, yearbooks cannot be placed on hold.
Student Library Books Due Friday, May 11
The students sitting for STAAR exams the week of May 14 may return their student library books after their exams. Their books should be returned to the WCHE Library by Friday, May 18.
Pick Up Student Medication From Nurse Hensel By Noon May 25
Be sure to drop by to reclaim any medications left with the Nurse this school year!
