King of France

Louis the 14th was born to Louis XIII of France and Anne of Austria on September 5th, 1638. He became king at the age of 4 after his father died. Louis was married to Maria Theresa of Spain and divorced her in 1783 and married Francoise d'Aubigne. King Louis weakened the nobility by appointing the people he trusts from the middle class. He wanted to make France into a strictly catholic country and wanted it to be the most powerful power in Europe. He forced out the protestants who did not convert to Catholicism. It was his main goal to Under his reign, new colonies were discovered and another renaissance was launched. He wanted his image to be glorified and was depicted as Apollo, the god of the sun, and Louis was known as the Sun King. A palace in Versailles was built for Louis as a symbol of absolute monarchy. Louis wanted all the power to himself due to his ideology of divine right. King Louis XIV died on September 1, 1715 due to Gangrene.
