All events should be submitted to www.knox.edu/addevent. If you would like an image included, please upload it when submitting your event online. In order to ensure your event is included in the newsletter, please complete your submission at least one week prior to the Monday Newsletter you would like your event to appear in. Earlier submissions are encouraged!

Traveling Bicentennial of Illinois Law Exhibit

The Illinois Supreme Court Historic Preservation Commission presents a three-tower exhibit to highlight the history of the Illinois Supreme Court, famous Illinois lawyers and cases, and a general history of the judiciary’s first 200 years.
Cases featured include Block v. City of Chicago, which concerned the first movie censorship laws. Lawyers featured include Ferdinand Barnett, one of the first African American attorneys licensed in Illinois.
The exhibit commemorates 200 years of the Illinois judicial branch.
"Understanding Poetry": An exhibition by John Dilg

The exhibition by John Dilg titled "Understanding Poetry" will run from February 12-March 15 in the Borzello Gallery of the Ford Center for Fine Arts.
John Dilg received a B.F.A. in Painting and Filmmaking from the Rhode Island School of Design. He is the recipient of a Fulbright Grant to India, a National Endowment for the Arts Individual Artist Fellowship, and three Residency Fellowships at the Yaddo Foundation.
Dilg has been a visiting artist at more than 40 institutions, including Yale University, the University of Pennsylvania, Sarah Lawrence College, The University of Chicago and Stanford University. His work is in the collections of the Arkansas Art Center, the Figge Museum of Art, Illinois State University, the Museum of Contemporary Art, Chicago, and several other public institutions. Reviews include Art in America, New York Times, Hyperallergic, Huffington Post, Boston Globe, and New Art Examiner.

Anxiety Coping Skills Workshop
4 - 5 pm
Wilson House
This workshop is meant as an opportunity to learn coping skills to decrease anxiety symptoms. The majority of this time will be spent sharing, practicing, and discussing coping techniques. This is not group counseling, but rather is set up as a classroom-like learning environment.
This is an open workshop, meaning that this event is open to the campus. Students interested in attending do not have to contact Counseling Services in advance.
"Understanding Poetry": Artist Talk by John Dilg

"Understanding Poetry" is an exhibition by John Dilg in the Borzello Gallery.
The show will run Feb. 12 - March 15.
There will be an artist talk at 4:30 in the Round Room, followed by a reception in the gallery.

Reverend Dave Wright (he/they) is the University Chaplain and Co-Director of the Center for Intercultural and Civic Engagement at the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington. At Puget Sound, his work includes leadership for religious and spiritual life programs and resources, with a particular emphasis on the connections between religion, culture, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality.
Dave is also the immediate Past President of the Association for College and University Religious Affairs, and a former board member for the National Association of College and University Chaplains. In 2018 he was recognized by NASPA's Spirituality and Religion in Higher Education Knowledge Community as their Outstanding Professional of the Year, and then provided the closing keynote address at NASPA's 2018 Religious, Spiritual, and Secular Identities national conference.

Tejas Shah, an immigration counselor at Franczek Radelet P.C., will address the current status of DACA, potential legal avenues for DACA recipients, and additional changes to the immigration laws that may affect students.

Justice Thomas L. Kilbride: Innovation in the Illinois Judicial System

Illinois Supreme Court Justice Thomas L. Kilbride will speak on the history and innovation in the Illinois judicial system on Wednesday, February 13, at 4 p.m. in the Trustees Room on the third floor of Alumni Hall. The event is free and open to the public.
Kilbride's talk will focus on the selection of state Supreme Court justices and judicial innovations that have occurred in Illinois since he was elected to the court in 2000. Two of those innovations include the introduction of cameras into Illinois courtrooms and the citation of online opinions, two initiatives that occurred during his term as Chief Justice from 2010 to 2013.

Knox College will honor four alumni with Alumni Achievement Awards at the 2019 Founder's Day Convocation on Friday, February 15, 2019, at 5:00 p.m. in the Muelder Reading Room of Seymour Library.
This year's Alumni Achievement Award winners are Joseph Cecchi '68, Joel Christensen '06, Bridget Coughlin '94, and Mark McIntosh '72.
This event is free and open to the public.
