8th Grade Altered Books!
Mr. Chapman
News from the Art Room
6th Grade is finishing up on shading project and will be starting a watercolor unit this week.
7th Grade is continuing work on their community city construction.
8th Graders are in full swing on the Altered Book project
News will be pretty repetitive for 8th Grade the rest of the year, as they are just getting started in the process. I will be checking progress weekly and adding points to their overall grade in the process. With each project check I will be asking them questions, and asking why they chose to do certain elements in their book and evaluating their progress as well as direction. If you want to see ideas on Altered Books and what they are all about, the best overall place with many variations is pinterest. https://www.pinterest.com/explore/altered-books/
They have many ideas and great featured books to browse through.
As always if you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to email me cchapman@fulton58.org

6th graders practiced their keyboarding skills this week. Their goal the past few weeks has been 16 wpm with 90% accuracy. They may practice their keyboarding anytime at typingtraining.com. Students can even use their Chromebooks to practice anywhere they have an Internet connection. They all have their login information. If you have any issues logging on at home, please email me. You can monitor your child's progress at home and school by going to the reports menu after they have logged into Typing Training. Many computer students email to ask login information or for me to assign specific assignments on typingtraining.com. I welcome these emails and respond as soon as possible. 6th graders also They also successfully completed a mini-unit on computer spreadsheets. We will soon start a Microsoft Word unit to learn

6th Grade Band: Students should be working on numbers 118-125 in the book for next week. We are going to be moving along in the book and we are going to be passing out sheet music for the concert. The students took a counting test in class yesterday and we will have that handed back to the students next week.
7th Grade Band: 7th Grade students worked on their scales post test for the year and most students improved and we had many students score a 100%. The students have received their sheet music for the upcoming May concert and are working hard in class on their scales as well. We appreciate all of the hard work that the students are putting forth this year and we cannot wait to see what they accomplish throughout the rest of the year.
8th Grade Band: 8th grade band was recognized at the board meeting on Wednesday and I am so proud of what they have accomplished. They are working really hard to put on an extra special concert for the last concert of the year. Please encourage your students to practice at home as much as possible so that we can make this concert a success.
Wire Choir: Guitar students performed at Playhouse Bistro on April 7 and worked so hard to put on a good performance. The students did great and I am so proud of their accomplishments this year. The guitar students WILL be performing on the concert on May 9 with the rest of the band groups. Keep it up,you all are doing awesome!

HORNET SINGERS:
Hornet Singers...though they be but few, they be mighty!
We are enjoying all of our pieces for our concert that will be Monday, May 8th. The students are so pumped about the new styles they are learning and I have greatly enjoyed seeing this excitement grow.
Keep Your Lamps Trimmed and Burning was an ensemble favorite but now Let Me Fly! has won their hearts. I encourage you to check these pieces out on youtube, you won't regret your decision.
We are continuing to work on our music literacy as we are sight-reading daily! Ask your student all about it...it's a game...it's a puzzle...it's FUN! :)
The choir handbook and schedule is online for your perusal anytime. (www.fulton58.org)
HARMONY HORNETS:
We are so proud of the hard work these students give every Tuesday! Our amazing group is made up of a mixture of 6th-8th grade (7th/8th band or guitar members) and has great energy and interest in making great music. Rehearsals are every Tuesday from 3:20 - 4:15 in the FMS choir room (G07).
We are having so much fun with our songs this semester and can't wait for our concert all about Spirituals!
If you ever have any questions, concerns, or comments, feel free to contact me at llehman@fulton58.org.
HORNET PRIDE:
Our singers are rocking our concert repertoire! I'm so excited for them to share these spirituals with the community! Their hard work, dedication, and enthusiasm make each rehearsal a lot of fun. Please keep encouraging our singers to keep up their great work!
ARTS ALIVE:
6th graders are wrapping up their study of music notation! We have begun performing basic rhythmic patterns, and students are composing their own! The rhythms they compose will be transformed to dance as they work together to choreograph a short routine! I'm impressed by their creativity!
CAREERS:
We are continuing our study of personal finance. Our recent topics have included saving money, reading a paycheck stub, income, and expenses. Students are preparing to begin project of choosing a career path, and creating a hypothetical budget to go along with their "future lifestyle." This allows them to practice budget and money management while exploring a career that interests them.
Please feel free to check out the two links below to try out the games we are using to supplement our study of money management: Bank or Bust and Financial Football! These awesome interactive games are options for students to check out when they have finished their class assignments for the day!
CALLING VOLUNTEERS FOR CAREERS CLASS! If you or someone you know would be interested in visiting our class to talk about your job or career field, please let me know. We are also looking for opportunities to visit local businesses. If you know of an awesome place, please share your ideas!
