Hi Families:
Reading Week is HERE!! Next week we will celebrate our shared LOVE of reading! We will have guest readers, shared read alouds, and a spirit week of fun dress days! CHECK below on what to wear when! MONDAY is Mis-match Monday - I can't wait to see all the colors and dots and stripes and patterns! In case you need an example of some great mis-matched dressing, look above this message to see a few of our teachers from last year's mis-match day! THAT is mis-match done right!
We are here to be your partner in education and we are honored to work with YOU and your children everyday! Enjoy your day off tomorrow!

Family Math Help Site!
The School District of Waukesha is committed to working to improve math instruction for students. We strive to create future mathematicians who are creative problem solvers, persevere in new situations, and collaborate with peers.
To help with this, the district's math instructional team has created a Family Math Help Site to support families and give them a glimpse into their child's mathematics experience in the SDW. The site provides resources such as:
Basic Fact Strategies
Computational Fluency Strategies
Vocabulary Words
iPad Friendly Sites
Family Letters for each Unit
Learning Math Facts at Home
The SDW Math Continuum
A detailed description of The Math Workshop
7 ways you can help your child at home
Check it out and let us know if you have any questions!
Monthly Characteristic!
- September was RESPECT
- October we practiced FOCUS
- November we worked on building GROWTH MINDSETS
- December we tackled TOLERANCE
- January, we moved our focus into SELF CONTROL
- February, we worked on ACCEPTANCE
- March we practice KINDNESS
The picture shows a book all of our classrooms will be reading sometime this month! It's called If Kids Ran the World and it's all about all roads leading to kindness and what we (even kids!) can do to make our world a better place.
You can support at home by praising your child when you see sharing, manners, and kind words to and about others. Kindness can show up anywhere - let's work together to notice it when we see it!
Speak Up Speak Out
Wisconsin parents and caregivers,
The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of School Safety (OSS) is thrilled to announce the launch of the SPEAK UP, SPEAK OUT Resource Center (SUSO). SUSO is a comprehensive, one-stop place to turn to with your concerns regarding school safety. A facet of the Resource Center that we are particularly pleased to share with Wisconsin students and parents is the threat reporting system.
The SUSO threat reporting system is available 24/7 and is free to all.
Students, parents, school staff and community members can submit a school safety concern, beginning in early September, by downloading the SUSO app (Android and iOS), visiting speakup.widoj.gov or by calling 1-800-MY-SUSO-1. Resource Center staff work around-the-clock to respond to reports and to deploy a response locally by communicating directly with school administrators, law enforcement and counselors.
Of school administrators who participated in a recent survey surrounding the use of school tip lines, 77% believed that their tip line made them more aware of safety issues at their school, 73% reported that their tip line had prevented incidents of self-harm or suicide, and more than half believed their tip line had prevented violent incidents.
SDW Elementary students watched an age-appropriate presentation narrated by our district school counselors this week explaining the importance of reporting anything they see or hear that may be unsafe.
To learn more about the SUSO Resource Center and how to report safety concerns, visit speakup.widoj.gov or find us on social media @speakupwi.
Sincerely,
The Wisconsin Department of Justice (DOJ) Office of School Safety (OSS) & the School District of Waukesha
