FROM DR. B.

Good morning, Trailblazers! I hope you’ve had a great week.

We continue on our ABCs of SCCS series. Last time, I shared about I = inclusive education. It’s time to head to J.

A feeling of great happiness.

Bliss.

Gladness.

Warm fuzzies.

That’s how Merriam Webster describes our next topic: joy.

But we know joy goes so much deeper.

Joy is that deep sense of comfort, thankfulness, excitement, and jump-up-and-down praise that comes only through belief in Christ and through the power of the Holy Spirit.

Sometimes, this season is called one of joy. In fact, joy played a big part in the first Christmas. Our first graders have been busy memorizing Luke 2. Part of the passage that they’ll have hidden in their heart includes: “And there were shepherds living out in the fields nearby, keeping watch over their flocks at night. An angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people. Today in the town of David a Savior has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord.”

I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.

Beautiful.

May we stand in awe of the perfect gift that God gave us.

May we forever be thankful that we are part of His family.

May we keep our eyes, hearts, and hands open to opportunities to serve others.

May we cut through the noise, the distractions, the busyness, and the false stories.

May we continue to be people focused on bringing the good news that causes great joy.

Merry Christmas from all of us at Sioux Center Christian School!

EDUCATION FREEDOM SUMMIT

From Dr. Bowar: Greetings! This is an exciting time to serve in Christian schools in IA. Gov. Kim Reynolds recently became the first governor in the nation to sign the Education Freedom Pledge. The pledge states:

"I pledge to support policies that promote parental rights in education and educational freedom. This includes the right of parents to voice their opinions at school board meetings and to take their children’s taxpayer-funded education dollars to the education providers of their choosing – whether it be a public, private, charter, or home school."

As one way to educate and mobilize friends of the school choice movement in Northwest IA, I’d like to invite you to the Education Freedom Summit, a collaborative event being planned by Sioux Center Christian School and Western Christian High School. The event will be held at Western Christian High School on Wednesday, January 5 at 12:00pm. Lunch will be provided.

The intent of the Summit is to bring awareness and excitement around the topic of school choice and ESAs and to learn how to better advocate for these opportunities. The Summit will include Lydia Quick and Eric Goranson of the Iowa Association of Christian Schools, Steve Holwerda of EdChoice, Representative Skyler Wheeler, Senator Jeff Taylor, Corey DeAngelis of the American Federation for Children, school leaders, board members, and interested citizens. We have also invited Governor Reynolds. We are still awaiting her RSVP.

Now is the time to unite to advance the mission of Christian education. I hope you will join us, and please also invite anyone who you feel would be interested in this opportunity, especially people with a passion for ESAs! Please RSVP by December 22 by emailing brad.vis@westernchristianhs.com or by calling/texting 605-359-5704.

I hope to see you on January 5!

From Mrs. Vander Werf: TK was blessed last week with a visit from the Dordt Defender Hockey Team! They came and read Christmas books to us! TK students also gave them JOY! We read the book, The Legend of the Candy Cane by Lori Walburg. We made candy canes ahead of time and gave one to each hockey player. TK told the story of the candy cane and celebrated the JOY of Christ’s birth with them! It was extra special because the coach of the Dordt Defenders is also Dad to one of our TK students! Thank you, Dordt University Hockey, for bringing us JOY today!

IGNITE THE VISION

In a world that daily invites children into its many and varied stories, at Sioux Center Christian School we are dedicated to making God's Story KNOWN, LOVED and LIVED every day!

Our deep desire is to be here until Christ returns... discipling, treasuring, and training as many children as God sends our way, until His Day of ultimate transformation!

A key milestone in our plans to endure is expanding our campus to include a new flexible gym/chapel/performance space, with ten additional classrooms, plus expanded student work areas.

Will you prayerfully consider how your year-end gift can help IGNITE the giving for this next milestone?

We have already received over $100,000 in gifts towards our goal of reaching $350,000 by December 31! Every gift is important in laying the foundation of giving towards this next exciting step for our school! You may give online at https://www.siouxcenterchristian.com/support/donate.cfm or drop off/mail your donation to school (630 1st Ave SE). Thank you!

LOST AND FOUND

Is your child missing a jacket or sweatshirt? How about gloves? The Lost and Found Table is full so check it out to see if anything belongs to you. Items not picked up will be donated to Melissa's Hope Chest during the Christmas break. Thanks!
