Translation of the Principal's Weekly

Just a reminder that the website I use to create my weekly newsletters, now has translation in many different languages. Here are the steps to have it translated:

At the top of the weekly email, there's a link that reads "View it in your browser," click that and it takes you to the post on a webpage.

Scroll to the bottom where there's a black menu bar and pick the option that says "Translate."

Select the language you would like it translated in and it will then translate it on the webpage.

A Message From Principal Choquette 3/8/19

Good afternoon. Don't forget to change your clocks this weekend! We "spring ahead" one hour. It will be lighter out in the evenings making it feel that much closer to spring.

On March 11th our school council will be hosting an information session on the budget process, how the budget impacts BSS, and advocacy. Please see the agenda below. The meeting will be at 7:00 p.m. on Monday in the library. Also, there will be an all schools school council meeting on the budget on March 12th from 5:00-6:00 p.m. at JFK middle school.

There is a PTO meeting on Tuesday, March 12th at 3:15 in the library. Childcare will be provided. Our PTO does so many wonderful things for our school, we are so appreciative for all that they do. If you'd like to get involved you can attend a meeting, or email the PTO co-presidents, Kelsey Flynn ( or Dina Kochanek (

Don't forget to come to the Annual BSS Science Fair on March 20th. It is a great opportunity to see the amazing science projects our kids do. It is a lot of fun and it gives us an opportunity to show off the hard work our students put into their projects. Please see attached. Hope to see you all there!

I hope you all have a wonderful weekend (and don't forget to change your clocks)!

Playground Committee

JOIN THE BSS PLAYGROUND COMMITTEE! Everyone is welcome to the Committee's first meeting on Thursday, March 14th at 6:30 p.m. in the BSS library. Childcare will be provided. As we've previously shared, BSS was awarded a $5,000 Lowe's playground grant. In addition, our generous community raised over $3,000 on Giving Tuesday to put toward BSS playground enhancements. The Playground Committee's role is to gather feedback from the BSS community on ways to improve our students' outdoor play experiences, so please come share your ideas with the Committee on March 14th! If you can't attend the meeting, please feel free to email with your feedback.

Half Day of School Coming Up

There is a half day of school on March 15th. Dismissal will be at 12:20 p.m.

School Lunch Menu Update

Starting in April we will only be sending home paper copies of the lunch menu to families who don't receive the electronic version of the weekly. The menus are always attached to my weekly. Thank you for helping us to save some trees!

MARCH MENU CHANGE: Tuesday March 5th was originally a chicken burrito bowl, but has now been changed to cheese quesadillas! Please make note!

Internet Safety

The internet puts more resources at our fingertips than ever before. Due to the wealth of information accessible online, both good and bad, it’s important to understand different ways we can make the internet safer. One website that provides a variety of internet safety resources for parents is Common Sense Media. For example, they have produced, A Parents Ultimate Guide to YouTube, A Parent’s Ultimate Guide to YouTube Kids, and YouTube Alternatives. These resources contain steps to add content filters and parental controls, to reduce the chance of exposure to inappropriate content. For more information on safety tips, as well as discussion starters click here!

K-5 Celebration 3/14/19

Our next celebration will be for all K-5 students. First grade will be presenting a Puppet Show for Celebration on Thursday March 14th. Ms. Monopoli's class will be performing and the other first graders created the scenery.
