Social Studies: We jumped into our studies of Asia last week. I will send home information about the Asia project later this week.

Reading: Students are working through reader’s workshop books and assignments on non-testing days. They have been practicing writing summaries of their text and began their self-selected vocabulary assignment for the unit today
Writing: I chose to wait until next week to begin our 4th and final writing unit called “The Literary Essay” which focuses on writing about our reading. This week, we will work through a non-fiction article in our Storyworks Magazine about the final voyage of the Lusitania in 1915. Today we watched a short video of the author describing her writing process with a special focus on editing. Later in the week, we will read through the article paying special attention to the descriptive language she uses – a skill we’ve focused a great deal on as authors this year.
