April 5-9 Long Distance Learning Update
Superintendent's Weekly Video Message
Hello Sea King Families,
We are so excited to have our TK-2nd grade Sea Kings return to in-person learning this week! Please see the Parent Re-Opening Guidebook in the newsletter below.
Here is what you need to know:
- Your student's schedule-Which days they should arrive on campus and which days they learn from home
- When on campus learning begins for your student's grade level
- Your students must bring the completed Emergency Card with them on their first day in the classroom
- Schedule C students pick up materials April 5 from 9-1PM
- Masks and social distancing will be required for staff and students
- Please drop off students at the front gate only- we will show them where to go from there
- See the new bus schedule in the newsletter below
- Please call the office if you have questions about these important details
Beginning April 6, TK-2nd grade students will return to on-campus learning if they are on Schedule A, B, or D. Schedule C students will continue with distance learning. Students in grades 3-6 will join us on campus if they are Schedule A, B, or D beginning April 13. Mondays will continue to be "Distance Learning" days for every student on every schedule.
Our new daily schedule begins April 6. TK/Kinder students will attend school from 9:00AM-1:55PM. Students in grades 1-6 will attend school from 9:00AM-2:55PM. Please see the detailed schedule in the newsletter below, including information such as lunch and recess. Students learning from home will also be using this updated schedule.
For students who will remain on distance learning exclusively, families will have the chance to pick up quarter 4 supplies on April 5, from 9-1PM, in the Ericson Library. Please see the schedule in the newsletter below for your time slot. If your children will be learning in person twice a week, they will get their supplies from their teacher when they arrive for class. Please do not come for supplies April 5 if your child will return to in-person learning.
We have a special attendance incentive for quarter 4! Crazy Karen is coming to Ericson to do a fun assembly for students with excellent attendance. Make sure you come to school each day, on time, and stay logged in the whole school day. We hope to have many Sea Kings earn this wacky, wild, fun assembly for excellent attendance!
Thank you for working with us and being part of our Sea King Team. Please call our Sea King Hotline at 253-6450 or email us at Ericsonelementary@fresnounified.org if you have questions or if you need to clear your child's absences.
Our office is open for parents by appointment only on Mondays through Friday. When visiting the campus for any reason always wear a mask and practice social distancing for the health and safety of our employees and our community.

State Testing for 3rd-6th Grade
In the past, the California Assessment of Student Performance and Progress (CAASPP) tests were given during a school day at school between late-March and late-May of the school year. This year, due to the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, we are offering a way for your child to take the test from the safety of their home. Students will be tested during the month of May either in person or online.
Your child's teacher will proctor the tests for students both in person and online. To ensure your child receives the most accurate score, which will allow us to provide the instructional services and support to best meet your child’s needs, we ask that all parents/guardians agree to following rules:
1. Please do not allow your child’s brothers, sisters, friends, or parents help answer questions.
2. You may assist your child setting up the technology used to enter the video meeting with the test examiner, but please do not help your child with the questions or provide language translations.
3. Please follow all instructions given by the test examiner to place the student’s web camera where your child and immediate surroundings can be observed. We need to know that the test is being completed by your child without any help or assistance. To verify compliance, the student’s web camera must be on during the entire test session. The camera is only used to observe the student and the surroundings during the test and will not record the session.
4. Please do not talk about the questions on the test or any materials of the test with anyone before, during, or after the test administration.
5. No one may record the test, takes a picture of any of the questions either by camera or tools on the computer, or even take a picture of your child taking the test.
These rules apply to all the tests in the CAASPP System: SBAC – English language arts/literacy, SBAC – mathematics, science tests, and the California Spanish Assessment. If you are not able to agree to the rules for remote testing, please contact your child’s school principal or vice-principal as soon as possible and arrangements will be made to test your child at the school site when it is safe.
For students who will take the entire test or any part of the test at the school site, all the safety guidelines approved by the Fresno County Department of Public Health will be observed. Your child’s safety is of the utmost importance to us.
