P.S. 188Q Weekly Newsletter

April 11th-April 15th

A Message from Mrs. Figueroa

This past week was "National Assistant Principals Week." P.S. 188Q is grateful for all the work that Mrs. Nartowicz does each day!

As the saying goes, "April showers bring May flowers," we are starting to see flowers blooming right outside our school building. Here are a few important reminders for this week:

School begins at 8:00 a.m. The doors at the main building open at 7:30 a.m. and 7:45 a.m. at the Annex. We have allotted a ten minute window for students to arrive to school without being marked late. Students that arrive after 8:10 a.m. will be marked late. We need your help getting your children to school on time. Every minute counts

Stop-Drop-and Go at the Main needs your help. Please abide by the following guidelines so we can ensure the safety of all here at PS 188Q:

  • Please arrive early to find parking on the streets around the school building. There is NO PARKING in front of the school or the schoolyard. There is NO PARKING in front of the school between the times of 7 a.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Please do not block the road or leave your car double parked to drop off or pick up your child. We cannot block the road.
  • Please do not block the neighbor's driveways.
  • Please do not move the cones so you can park on Hartland at dismissal.

Please work with us to ensure that arrival and dismissal go smoothly.

April is Poetry Month. On Wednesday, we will be celebrating "Poem in Your Pocket" day. We are doing this early due to NYS Math testing so all of our students can participate. Make sure your child has their poem ready. Some suggestions are below.

To ensure that students have a COVID-19 test kit to use prior to returning from the Spring Recess, home test kits will be distributed on April 14th. Students will receive four test kits. Students should use the test kit on the evening of April 23, and again on the evening of April 24, before returning to school on April 25. Please note that while use of the test kit is strongly encouraged, participation is voluntary and staff and students are not required to show proof of a negative test result before being allowed to return to work and school.

The Proudest Blue

Our second grade students and teachers created an amazing display of various activities after reading the book, The Proudest Blue. If you come to the Main Building, look to your right when you stop at the security desk and you will see their amazing work!

1-118 are Bucket Fillers!💕

Students in clas1-118 wrote Mrs. Figueroa a letter stating their appreciation for the things that she does each day. Bravo 1-118 for filling Mrs. Figueroa's bucket!

NYC School Survey Deadline EXTENDEDđŸš©

As of Wednesday, April 6th, only 55.5% of our families have filled out the survey. The survey deadline has been extended to April 15th. Please take a moment to complete the survey. It is important because it gives us a snapshot of how we are doing. For more information please follow this link www.nycschoolsurvey.org.

If you are unable to find the paper survey, please follow the link below to take the survey. All you need is your child’s 9-digit OSIS (Student Identification Number) number. When asked for the access number, enter a lowercase “f” followed by their child’s nine-digit OSIS number (see example below). This will bring you to the survey.
