The Tiger Times
February 2023
From the Principal
Dear Mohawk Families,
It's hard to believe that we are over halfway through our school year and winter break is right around the corner! Our Kindness Week was a great success. Students created kindness projects, participated in theme week, and learned what it is to be a good friend. We also took a school wide photo (below). Let's keep the positivity going!
The parking lot continues to be an issue, especially at dismissal. Please do NOT park in the bus loop or block others from moving. The busses must be allowed to enter and leave without incident to ensure a timely drop-off. Always be courteous and follow the designated signs.
February is Black History Month. We celebrate the contributions African Amerians have made throughout all periods in U.S. History. It is a great opportunity for families to have conversations about the experiences Black people have faced. It can also remind us to shine a light on the injustice African Americans still face in this country. Below is a Smore that highlights Black History Month. It is full of information and resources for you use at home with your children.
As always, thank you for your continued support during this challenging school year. Enjoy the snow with your children!

Education is important for your child’s success in life. Regular attendance ensures that your
child gets all the benefits school can offer. When children are missing school, they’re missing out on those benefits. School attendance is so important, that Michigan law makes it compulsory for all children ages 6 to 16 attending public schools. When children are excessively absent, the law holds parents/guardians accountable.
The district requires we send home attendance letters every two weeks. It is important to inform us if your child will be absent each day. If you call off your child after the day he/she is absent, the absence will be considered unexcused. Both excused and unexcused absences count toward the numbers below. Letters are sent out as follows:
First Letter-10 or more absences
Second Letter-15 or more
Third Letter-20 or more-Truancy is filed at this time
