Tidbits of Information
- Bus students should be lined up a their assigned bus # spot and an adult should walk the line to the assigned bus.
- If you don't have an assigned duty after school please assist with the car line - many kids are not getting to the car line in a timely manner. We did shave off 15 minutes but many kids were still very slow coming out to the car line. Visit with your students about listening for their name and number to go to and they should walk quickly to that spot. Listen for student names from your classroom and send them out if they don't hear their name. Quietness in the during dismissal helps a lot!
We have had several Principals and Teachers inquiring if they are able to eat breakfast and lunch for free. If you could send out the following information to your Explore staff so they understand the parameters of the program it would be very helpful.
The Summer Food Service Program (SFSP) through the Department of Health and Senior Services DHSS is a little different than the food service program offered during the regular school year through DESE. With this program, teachers can eat for free if they monitor the children while they are eating. So if a teacher comes to the cafeteria during breakfast (at non BIC sites) or lunch and monitors kids for 20-30 minutes they can eat a regular meal for free. They still need to go through the regular line so that our staff can tally them on the count sheet. If the teachers have monitored kids while eating they can either eat in the cafeteria, or take their meal to the teachers’ lounge or their classroom to eat. If a teacher or other adult wants to eat lunch but does not monitor any children they will be need to pay for their meal when they receive their meal. Regular adult prices are $1.70 for breakfast and $3.25 for lunch.
In addition, this year we are offering Offer vs Serve (OVS) during our SFSP which means the students do NOT have to take a milk or every component. They need to take a fruit/juice or a vegetable and 2 other components (grain, meat/meat alternative, milk). So if a child brings their lunch and wants a milk or juice to drink, they still have to get a reimbursable meal but that can be a juice, a milk and a vegetable. Then if they do not want all the food they can put the remaining items on a share table with ice pillows to be kept cold for other kids who may want more to eat. We do not want to be wasteful. I hope this is helpful for everyone. Please let us know if you have any questions.
