Standing Strong with Uvalde
On September 6th, many Texas school districts stood together to let the Uvalde parents, students, and faculty know that we were standing with them as they began this school year. Gunter ISD students and faculty traded their Gunter blue for maroon to show support for the Uvalde students going back to school for the first time since the tragedy during the previous school year.
New Elementary Plans in Progress
Discussions have begun on the new elementary school. Administrators and taff members sat down with with the architects of Corgan to give their input on the needs in their departments.
School Board Briefs
Gunter ISD Police Department Partners with iWatchTexas
Protecting Texas students, faculty, and schools requires everyone’s support. iWatchTexas encourages students, administrators, parents, and concerned individuals to report anything that may trouble you: no concern is too small. By alerting the proper authorities to incidents that concern you, we can take steps toward preventing rather than reacting to school violence.
Depending on the nature of the report, referrals will be made to appropriate authorities which could include school officials, district officials and local law enforcement.
Using a single, statewide reporting system ensures that tips from different parts of the community are all integrated in order to link critical data. The iWatchTexas initiative is part of the DPS Intelligence and Counterterrorism Division (ICT), which serves as the central clearinghouse for the collection, management, analysis and dissemination of law enforcement and homeland security intelligence in Texas.

They will be setting up in the high school cafeteria to show the growing process with an informational display for our agriculture/horticulture, biology classes, or any other student who is interested in learning. Commended Students placed among the top 50,000 students out of over 2 million who entered the 2023 competition by taking the 2021 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). “Those being named Commended Students have demonstrated outstanding potential for academic success,” commented a spokesperson for NMSC. “These students represent a valuable national resource; recognizing their accomplishments, as well as the key roll their schools play in their academic development, is vital to the advancement of educational excellence in our nation. We hope this recognition will help broaden their educational opportunities and encourage them as they continue their pursuit of academic success.”
Nick was also recognized as a National Rural and Small Town Scholar by the College Board for his performance on the PSAT/NMSQT test last Fall. Students are eligible for this recognition if they manage to score in the top 10% of test takers and are from a small town. Please congratulate Nick when you see him around town. Well done!!

National Honor Society - Building Relationships Through Volunteering
by Alexis Marks
The National Honor Society (NHS) is a student-led organization where students get the opportunity to help their community through volunteer work and leadership. NHS has been busy helping others this year. So far, we have decorated Gunter High School’s bulletin boards, assisted in the firework show at the Fourth of July celebration, tutoring middle school students as needed, making the morning announcements for Gunter High School, and working in the Gunter Library and Museum. Some upcoming events NHS will be assisting include the Touch a Truck event and the library’s Octoberfest. As a group, we have built relationships through team bonding and accountability groups, coordinated by NHS officers. As a whole, NHS advocates for leadership and hopes to leave a positive footprint on Gunter and its legacy.
