Update from the Ronald McDonald House
Thank you so much to all of the families who participated in the Ronald McDonald Read-a-thon to benefit the RMH of Albany! Please read the update below from the RMH organization.
Please mail your Read for RMH offline donations to:
RMHC
139 South Lake Avenue
Albany, NY 12208
Attn. Nancy Damato
Please enclose in your mailing the student’s sponsor form or a note listing the student’s first and last name and the student’s school name. If you have cash donations, please substitute a check for the cash before mailing. If your student has friends or relatives that planned to sponsor the student’s reading, student’s do not need to gather the donations before mailing to RMHC. Sponsors may mail the donations directly to RMHC at the address above and are also asked to enclose a note identifying the name of the student and the student’s school for whom the donations are being provided.
If mailing in donations is not possible, we will make accommodations to pickup donations from school once classes resume.
Thank you for your help in accommodating this change in plan in order to help us bring our March program to a close.

Why Routine is Important
Even if you’re not going to school, the park, or to friend’s houses, that doesn’t mean you should give up routines. But don’t be surprised if you run into testing and manipulation when trying to bring routine back into the house. Your kids may not want to change out of their pajamas or clean their room, so have your counting strategy in your back pocket.
Far from being bad or boring, routines will actually help your house run more smoothly—which is something we all need right now! It may be a little challenging to get a new routine in place (or shake the rust off one you haven’t used in a few weeks), but once they have it mastered, kids tend to start doing their routines automatically. That means less yelling and nagging that you have to do and more smiles all around.
As a reminder, here are the seven Start behavior tactics you can use when working on establishing a new routine (or picking up an old one) at your house:
- Positive reinforcement (like character cash)
- Simple requests
- Kitchen timers
- The docking system (loss of special privilege, device or toy)
- Natural consequences
- Charting
- Counting (That's 1, that's 2, that's 3. Time out)

Character Strong
Kid President starts by saying that, “some days are hard.” So he made this list of things he is thankful for.
Why do you think that making or sharing that list helps on hard days?
Which thing on the list are you most grateful for today?
What would you add to the list today?
Kid President is grateful for a lot of different kinds of things. What did you notice about the categories he was thinking about when it came to Gratitude?
Why is writing out what you are grateful for important?
Check out www.characterstrong.com for more great character building activities and challenges to do with your family.
